Notes

Work note

Work tightly. All clusters are made in Red and all sc's are made in Beige, carrying along Red and working over it as explained later.

Tie

Foundation

With Beige ch 5, join with a sl st. 1st row: 3 sc in ring. Ch 1, turn.

2nd row

2 sc in first sc, 1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn.

3rd row

2 sc in first sc, 1 sc in each of next 3 sc, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn.

4th row

2 sc in first sc, 1 sc in each of next 5 sc, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn.

5th row

Attach Spanish Red, with Beige work over previous row, carrying along Spanish Red and working over it so that after this row is worked, Red will be invisible. Make 2 sc in 1st sc, 1 sc in each of 3 sc, drop Beige (to back of work), pick up red and make a 3-dc cluster in next sc at the base of previous row, as follows: Make 3 dc in same st always holding the last loop of each dc on hook; then, thread over hook and take off all remaining loops. A tight ch st should then be made to fasten the cluster. (All clusters are made by inserting hook at the base of 1 row previous.) Drop red (to back of work) and with Beige (carrying along red and working over it) make 1 sc in each of 3 sc, 2 sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn.

6th and 7th rows

(With Beige, carrying along red and working over it.) Sc in each st of previous row, making 2 sc in 1st sc and 2 sc in last sc.

8th row

With Beige (working over red as before—make all sc with Beige carrying along red and working over it). Make 2 sc in first sc, 1 sc in each of 3 sc, 1 cluster, sc in each of 5 sc, 1 cluster, sc in each of 3 sc, 2 sc in last sc.

Repeat rows

Repeat 6th, 7th and 8th rows until 8 clusters are in a row, taking care to have clusters come in exact center of space of clusters of previous cluster row.

Cluster rows to 16

Hereafter, work without increasing, having 8 clusters in one cluster row and 7 clusters in next cluster row alternately, until 16 cluster rows are made in all, decreasing 1 st at beginning and end of 14th and 16th cluster rows. (To decrease, work 2 sc together 8 clusters in 16th cluster row.)

Cluster rows to 28

Then decrease 1 sc at beginning and 1 sc at end of next row and every 12th row for 3 times in all, having 7 and 6 cluster rows alternately until 28 cluster rows are made in all (6 clusters in 28th cluster row).

Cluster rows to 36

Then decrease 1 sc at beginning and end of every 12th row, twice, having 5 and 6 cluster rows alternately, until 36 cluster rows are made in all (6 clusters in 36th cluster row).

Cluster rows to 47

Decrease every 10th row, having 5 and 4 cluster rows alternately, until 47 cluster rows are made in all (5 clusters in 47th cluster row).

Cluster rows to 56

Decrease every 12th row, having 4 and 3 cluster rows alternately, until 56 cluster rows are made in all (4 clusters on 56th cluster row).

Cluster rows to 67

Decrease on every 7th row, having 3 and 2 cluster rows alternately until 67 cluster rows are made in all (3 clusters on 67th cluster row).

Cluster rows to 106

Hereafter work without decreasing. There will be 2 and 1 cluster rows alternately until 106 cluster rows are made in all (2 clusters in 106th cluster row).

Increase to 117

Then begin to increase (to increase make 2 sc in 1 sc) 1 sc at beginning and at end of every 9th row, having 3 and 2 cluster rows alternately until 117 cluster rows are made in all (3 clusters on 117th cluster row).

Increase to 126

Increase every 9th row, having 4 and 3 cluster rows alternately until 126 cluster rows are made in all (4 clusters on 126th cluster row).

Increase to 137

Increase on next 17 rows twice, having 5 and 4 cluster rows alternately until 137 cluster rows are made in all. (5 cluster rows on 137th cluster row).

Finish point

Hereafter decrease 1 st at beginning and at end of every row having 4, 3, 2 and 1 cluster rows. Then, finish point as for beginning.
