Set of 4 Mats each approximately 12-inches by 18- inches. MATERIALS—D-M-C Pearl Cotton, Art. 116D, Size 5: 20 balls Red No. 815 or No. 498 (A) or any other D-M-C Color and D-M-C Six Cord Crochet, Art. 154, Size 10: 20 balls White or Ecru (B). Steel Crochet Hooks, Size 7 and Size 9. GAUGE: 3 K-Stitch Patterns = 1 inch; 1½ tr = 1 inch; 2 K- Stitch rows = 1 inch

With A and size 7 hook, ch 182. Row 1 (right side)—Work a K-Stitch at beginning of row as follows: yo 3 times, draw up a loop in 4th ch from hook, * yo, thru 2 loops on hook (holding 4 loops on hook), yo, skip next ch on foundation ch, draw up a loop in next ch, yo, thru 2 loops on hook, yo, thru 3 loops, [yo, thru 2 loops] twice, ch 1, work a dc thru center twist of K-Stitch *, † ch 1, skip next ch of foundation ch, work a regular K-St. as follows: yo 3 times, draw up a loop in next ch then repeat between * once; repeat from † across to last ch, ch 1, work a long tr in end ch (44 K-Stitches.

Row 2

Row 2—Ch 5, turn, skip long tr, * yo 3 times, draw up a loop in top of first arm of next K, yo, thru 2 loops, yo, draw up a loop in top of 2nd arm of same K, yo, thru 2 loops, yo, thru 3 loops, [yo, thru 2 loops] twice, ch 1, work a dc thru center twist of K, ch 1; repeat from * across, ending with 1 long tr in top of turning ch. Rpt row 2 until 25 rows from beginning. Fasten off.

Edging—From right side, with A work a row of sc around Mat (keeping edge flat) working 3 sc in corners, join with slip st in first sc, fasten off.

CROCHETED RIBBON—With B and size 9 hook, ch 168, 1 tr in 5th ch from hook, 1 tr in each remaining ch, fasten off. Make 24 more Crocheted Ribbons. Block and press. Weave Crocheted Ribbon thru K-Stitch rows as shown on diagram, below, weaving over 3 K-Stitches (dotted) and under 4 K-Stitches (solid), shifting rows diagonally as indicated. Tack ends of Crocheted Ribbons neatly in place to wrong side of Mat.

Fringe

Fringe

FRINGE—Wind B on a 2-inch cardboard, cut at one end. Tie a 2 strand Fringe in each sc at both short sides of Mat.

Finishing

Trim Fringe evenly. Press.
