Materials: Clark's O.N.T. (19 balls) or J. & P. Coats (13 balls) Mercerized Crochet, Size 10, White. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 5 or 6. 2 pearl buttons.
Measurements. Shoulder to point, 18% inches. Across back of neck between shoulder pieces, 6 inches. Length of collar, 16% inches (18% inches for size 38).
Gauge: 12 sts to aninch, 12 rows to aninch.
Body
To begin, ch 110, turn.
Ist row: 1s cin 3rd ch from hook, 1 scineach st of foundation ch, ch], turn.
2nd row: 2scinlst sc (this is anincrease) of previous row, ]Scineachsc to end of row. Ch], turn.
3rd row: 1s cineachsc of row, ending with 2scinlastsc. Ch], turn.
4throw: 2scinlsts c,lscineachscto end of row, ending with2scinlastsc (this is anincrease at the neck). Chl, turn.
5th row: Same as 3rd row, ch, turn.
6th row: Same as 2nd row. Ch], turn.
7th row: Same as 3rd row, ch], turn.
8th row: Same as 4th row, ch], turn.
Repeat from 5th to 8th rows incl., thus increasing on every row at bottom of vest and on every 4th row at neck, until work measures 5% inches.
Decrease 1sc (to make a decrease, insert hook into st and pull thread through, insert hook into next st and pull thread through, thread over hook, and pull through all 3 loops on hook) on every other row at bottom of vest and increase 1s c onevery other row at neck, until work measures /Y inches.
Increase 1s c on every row at neck and decrease 1sc onevery other row at bottom until work measures 8 inches.
Decrease 1S c on every other row at bottom and on every 4th row at shoulder until work measures 9% inches, ending last row at neck. Do not break off.
