4th row

Thread over hook, draw through 1st loop on hook, * thread over hook, draw through 2 loops on hook. Repeat from * until all loops are worked off. Ch 1, but do not turn.

5th row

2 sc between first 2 loops (each loop has 2 strands), * 2 sc between next 2 loops. Repeat from * across (20 sc). Ch 1, turn.

6th row

Same as 2nd row. Turn.

7th to 10th rows incl

Repeat 3rd to 6th rows incl. There will be 40 sc in the 9th row.

11th and 12th rows

Repeat 3rd and 4th rows.

13th row

* 2 sc between each of 1st 4 loops (each loop has 2 strands), 1 sc in next loop. Repeat from * across. There will be 72 sc in this row. Make 2 (½-inch) knot sts to turn.

14th row

Skip 5 sc of previous row, sc in next, * 2 knot sts, repeat from * across, making 12 double knot sts in all. Then make 2 (½-inch) knot sts to turn.

15th, 16th and 17th rows

* Sc over double loop at right of next center knot of previous row, sc over double loop at left of same knot, 2 knot sts, and repeat from * across, ending row with sc on each side of last center knot. Ch 6, turn.

18th row

* Sc on each side of next center knot, ch 6, repeat from * across (12 loops in all). Ch 1, turn.

19th row

In each loop make 2 sc, ch-3 p, 2 sc, p, 2 sc, p, 2 sc (12 scallops). This completes one fan. Do not break off but ch 8, turn and continue for the second fan as follows:

Second fan 1st row

Sl st in center p of next scallop (2nd p from hook) on fan just completed. Ch 1, turn and work 10 sc in this loop. Hereafter work as for first fan, joining second fan to first fan as follows: On the last row of each sc section, join with sl st to center p of next scallop of first fan (thus 4 scallops in all are used for joining). Then continue to make knot st section without joining to first fan. At end of 18th row, join with sl st to center of next scallop of first fan and complete fan as for first fan. Do not break off but make a third fan, joining it to the second in the same way as the second one was joined to the first. Break off. Make another piece same as this.

Joining

Place the two pieces of collar together, having the 3rd fan of each piece meet (this is center front), so that the front view of collar will be bi-symmetric. Join the two pieces at center front by sewing together the center p of each of first 2 scallops at neck edge. Fasten and break off.

Neck edge

To finish off neck edge, attach thread to 1st p of 1st fan and work across the side of fan and along neck edge to corresponding p on opposite side, making 4 rows of double knot sts (as in fan) taking care to have work lie flat.

5th row

At end of 4th row, ch 3, turn. * Sc in each side of next center knot, ch 3, repeat from * across (thus curving neck edge). Ch 1, turn.

6th row

In each loop make 2 sc, ch-3 p, 2 sc. Break off. Make a ch-8 button-loop on one side at neck edge and sew button on opposite side to correspond.

Cuff

Cuff

Make 3 fans as for collar. Do not break off, but along straight edge of cuff to 1st p of 1st fan, work 4 rows of double knot sts as for collar. Then repeat 5th and 6th rows of collar. Fasten and break off. Make another cuff same as this. Starch lightly and press.
