ATERIALS ... Choose one of the following threads insize 50: Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Crochet, 9 balls of White or Ecru, or 13 balls of any color forlarge scarf; 6 balls of White or Ecru, or 9 balls of any color for medium scarf; 7 balls of White or Ecru, or 10 balls of any color for vanity set. J.& P. Coats Mercerized Crochet, 7 balls of White or Ecru, or 9 balls of any color for large scarf; 5 balls of White or Ecru, or 7 balls of any color for medium scarf; 5 balls or White or Ecru, or 7 balls of any color for vanity set. J. & P. Coats Big Ball Best Six Cord Mercerized Crochet, 4 balls of White or Ecru for large scarf; 3 balls for medium scarf; 3 balls for vanity set. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 12 or 13.

GAUGE: 7 lacets make 2 inches; 7 rows make Linch.

LARGE SCARF No. 7162-A When completed, scarf measures about 16 x 37 inches.

Starting at short side, make a chain about 20 inches long. Ist row: Scin9thch from hook, * ch 3, skip 2. ch, dc innext ch, ch 3, skip 2 ch, s cinnext ch. Repeat from * across until 55 lacets are made, ending with dc. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 8, turn.

2nd row: * Skip ch-3, the sc and ch-3,dcinnextdc,ch5. Repeat from * across (55 bars made). Ch6, turn.

3rd row: * Skip 2. ch, sc in next ch, ch 3, skip 2ch, dcinnext dc, ch 3. Repeat from * across. Ch 8, turn.

4th row: Same as 2nd row. Ch6, turn.

5th row: 8 lacets,dcineach of next 5ch, dcinnext dc (2 bls); 3 lacets, 2 bls, 12 lacets, 2 bls, 3lacets, 2 bls, 12 lacets, 2 bls, 3 lacets, 2 bls, 8 lacets. Ch8, turn.

6th row: 8 bars, 2 bls, 3 bars, 2 bls, 12 bars, 2 bls, 3 bars, 2 bls, 12 bars, 2 bls, 3 bars, 2 bls, 8 bars. Ch 6, turn.

7th row: 7 lacets, 2 bls, ch 2, skip 2dc,dcinnextdc,ch2, skip 2dc,dcinnextdc(2sps made); 2 bls, llacet, 2 bls, 2 sps, 2 bls, 10 lacets, 2 bls, 2 sps, 2 bls, llacet, 2 bls, 2 sps, 2 bls, 10 lacets, 2 bls, 2 sps, 2 bls, llacet, 2 bls, 2 sps, 2 bls, 7 lacets. Ch 8, turn. Hereafter follow chart, starting at 8th row from bottom, and work to top row of chart. Then repeat pattern from "A" to "B" on chart until 6 designs are completed. Finish end to correspond with beginning. Do not break off, but work arnd of dc closely together all around edges. Fasten and break off.

MEDIUM SCARF No. 7162-B When completed, scarf measures about 16 x 24/2 inches. Starting at one end, work exactly as for Large Scarf 7162-A until 4 designs are completed. Finish as before.

VANITY SET No. 7162-C When completed, centerpiece measures about 12% x 142 inches, and each side piece about 10 x 12 inches.

CENTERPIECE... Work exactly as for Large Scarf 7162-A until 2 designs are completed. Finish as before.

SIDE PIECES (Make 2) ... Starting at "D" on chart, make a chain about 15 inches long. Then work from "C" to "D" on chart, and continue as before until 2 designs are completed, having side "D" correspond with side "C". Finish as for other pieces.
