Pattern instructions
Petals
With Mid Rose, starting at center, ch 9, join with sl st to form ring.
Ch 3, make 24 dc in ring. Join with sl st to 3rd st of ch-3.
Ch 3, 3 dc in each dc around. Join.
Ch 3, dc in each dc around. Join.
Ch 4, dc in each dc with ch-1 between each dc. Join.
Ch 3, 2 dc in each ch-1 around. Fasten and break off. Make another petal same as this.
Calyx
With Green, ch 3, join with sl st to form ring.
Make 6 sc in ring.
* Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc. Repeat from * until 30 sc are in the rnd. Then work without increasing until work measures about ¾ inch deep. Break off. Stuff calyx with cotton, place the two petals (one inside the other) into calyx, and sew calyx around edges to petals. Make a smaller flower by making 1 petal only, joining it to a smaller calyx.
Stem
Wind Green around four fingers for 4 times thus making 4 loops each about 5 inches long. Tie ends securely. Make 1 sc in the 4 loops at one time to hold them together. Then over the 8 strands (the 4 loops), work a row of sc. At end of row, make 1 sc through the 4 loops (to prevent sc's from slipping off) as before, and continue working along other side of sc, making 1 sl st at base of each sc. Break off. Sew one end of stem to base of calyx of larger carnation. Sew smaller flower to center of same stem.
Leaf
With Green, ch 30, turn. Make 3 dc in 4th ch from hook, 1 dc in each of next 22 ch, 1 sc in each of next 3 ch, 3 sc in last ch. Then continue to work on opposite side of chain, making sc in each sc, and dc in each dc. Break off. Make 2 more leaves in same way and sew to stems as desired.
