Small Ball: 6 balls Clark's White or Ecru, or 8 of any color.

RUNNER 15" X 36" — 7 balls White or Ecru, or 11 of any color. RUNNER 15" X 45" — 8 balls White or Ecru, or 12 of any color.

GAUGE: 5 sps make linch; 5 rows make linch.

CHAIR BACK .... Starting at the bottom of chart, ch 63.

Ist row: Dcin4thch from hook, andinnext 11 ch(13 dc, counting the turning ch). Ch 2, skip 2 ch, dc innext ch (sp made). Make 4 more spaces, then work dc innext 6 ch (2 bls made). Make 5 sps, then work dc in next 12 ch. Ch 5, turn.

2nd row: Dc in 4thch from hook, dc in next ch (1b! increased at beginning of row); dc innext 13 dc, 2 dc in next sp, dc in next dc (bl made over sp). Ch 2, dc innext dc (so made over sp). Make 2 more sps, 4 bls, 3sps, 1 bl, dc in next I] dc, then make a foundation dc as follows: Thread over, insert hook in top st of turning chand drawa loop through; thread over and draw through I loop (Ichst made, to be used as a foundation st for next dc); complete dc in usual manner. Make 2 more foundation dc, and1dc in the usual way (1 blincreased at end of row). Ch 8, turn.

3rd row: Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next 4ch (2 bls increased); dc in next 7 dc, ch 2, skip 2 dc, dc in next dc (sp made over bl). For 45-inch Runner: Starting with 17th row, follow chart for Runner to top. Fasten off.

For 36-inch Runner: Starting with 17th row, follow chart for Runner until 43rd row has been completed. Omit the 44th to 6lst rows incl (area bracketed between arrows). Starting with 62nd row, follow chart until 164th row has been completed. Omit the 165th to 182nd rows incl (2nd bracketed area) then starting with 183rd row, follow chart to top. Fasten off.
