Crocheted Baby Afghan Pattern

AFGHAN STRIPE. With White, ch 24 and work 23 afghan sts. (Afghan Stitch: Pick up each st of ch, work back by drawing through first loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops, repeat from * to end of row.)

2nd Row. Same as 1st row, picking up the vertical yarn instead of the ch. Work back in same manner.

Repeat 2nd row. Work afghan sts until piece measures 30 inches, break yarn.

BORDER. Join Pink in 1st st of stripe, ch 3, insert needle in 2nd st of ch, pull through, insert needle in next st of ch, pull through, insert needle in 1st st, pull through, insert needle in next st, yarn over and pull through all loops on needle at one time, ch 1, (the ch 1 is referred to as the eye of the star st) insert needle in eye of st, pull through, insert needle in side loop of star st just made, pull through, insert needle in next st, pull through, insert needle in next st, yarn over and pull through all loops at one time, repeat from * across row.

2nd Row. Ch 3, pick up the 2nd and 1st st of ch, top of star of previous row, eye of next star and pull through all loops on needle, ch 1, pick up the eye of star st just made, side loop of star, top of star st of previous row, eye of next star st of previous row and pull through all loops on needle, repeat from *. Repeat 2nd row 8 times, break yarn.

On other side of afghan stripe, work 5 rows of star st border. Work another section to correspond. Sew sections together, placing the narrow stripes together to form center stripe.

EDGING. With White, ch 4 and work 7 trc in same space (ch 4 counts as 1 trc) skip length of a trc, sc in next st, skip length of trc, work 6 trc in next st, repeat from * working 8 trc in corners.

Embroider rosebuds in Light Pink. Work 3 leaves around rosebuds in Light Green. Leaves are about 3/4 inch long and worked in lazy daisy st. Rosebuds are worked in rambler rose st.
