Starting at one end, make a loose chain about 42 inches long. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across for 38 inches. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 1, turn.

2nd row

2nd row: Sc in 1st sc, sc in next sc picking up only back loop, sc in next sc picking up only front loop. Repeat from * across, ending row with sc in back loop of sc before last sc, then sc in both loops of last sc. Ch 1, turn.

3rd row

3rd row: Sc in 1st sc, sc in next sc picking up only back loop, sc in next sc picking up only front loop. Repeat from * across, ending row with sc in back loop, sc in both loops of last sc. Ch 1, turn.

Repeat and finish

Repeat the last 2 rows alternately until piece measures 50 inches long. Then make a row of sc all around edges. Break off. Bind short ends with blanket binding, with 2 rows of machine stitching.
