Advanced Hook No. 10 Ensemble Collar and Belt

A formal ensemble collar with jabot insertion and ridged edging, plus a matching belt with crocheted buckle, neck-band ties, and crocheted balls.

Size
Center insertion ch 138 (about 10 inches); neck band about 15 inches; belt about 30 inches or length desired; strings about 40 inches.

Pattern instructions

Center Insertion

Starting

Center Insertion. Starting at center, ch 138 (to measure about 10 inches). Turn and work sc in 26th ch from hook, * ch 2, skip 2 ch, sc in next ch, ch 12, skip 12 ch, sc in next ch (2 loops made). Repeat from * to end of ch (8 loops). Hereafter do not turn, but work in rnds as follows:

1st rnd

1st rnd: Ch 1, * sc in each of next 12 ch, ch 3, skip next 4 sts (sc, ch 2, sc). Repeat from * 6 more times. Then skip the next 4 sts, sc in each of next 25 ch (which is lower edge of jabot). Ch 3, and continue as before to end of rnd (which is neck edge). Join with a sl st.

2nd rnd

2nd rnd: Sc in ch-1, * sc in each of 12 sc, ch 2, skip ch-3, repeat from * 6 more times. Then sc in each of 25 sc, ** make 3 sc under all 5 rows of chains between loops, sc in each of 12 sc. Repeat from ** across.

3rd rnd

3rd rnd: Ch 7 (to count as 1 half dc and ch 5), skip 1 sc, 1 half dc in next sc, * ch 5, skip 2 sc, 1 half dc in next sc, repeat from * once more, ** then ch 5, skip 2 sc, 1 dc in next sc working off 2 loops only, skip 1st sc of next loop, 1 dc in next loop working off 2 loops only, then thread over, draw through all loops on hook (thus working off 2 dc as 1 st). Ch 5, skip 2 sc, 1 half dc in next sc, ch 5, skip 2 sc, 1 half dc in next sc. Repeat from ** across next 5 loops (3 sps made over each loop). Then over end loop (the loop with 25 sc) make 8 sps, and continue on other side of loops to correspond. Join last ch 5 with sl st to 2nd ch of ch-7 first made.

4th rnd

4th rnd: Sc in each st of ch-5, sc in each half dc and in each dc around.

5th rnd

5th rnd: Sc in each sc around.

6th rnd

6th rnd: Ch 4, * skip 2 sc, 1 half dc in next sc, ch 2, repeat from * around. Join last ch 2 to 2nd ch of ch-4 first made.

7th rnd

7th rnd: Sc in each st of ch-2 and in each half dc. Join.

8th rnd

8th rnd: Sc in each sc around. Break off.

Edging

Note

Edging. Edging is worked separately, then sewed to center. Starting at neck edge, ch 16, turn.

1st row

1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across (15 sc). Ch 1, turn.

2nd and 3rd rows

2nd and 3rd rows: Sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.

4th row

4th row: Sc in each of first 3 sc, * ch 1, skip 1 sc, 1 half dc in next sc. Repeat from * across (6 sps made). Ch 5, turn.

5th row

5th row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and sc in each st across, picking up only the back loop of each st. There will be 4 more sc than in previous row of sc. Ch 1, turn.

6th and 7th rows

6th and 7th rows: Sc in each sc across, picking up both loops. Ch 1, turn.

8th row

8th row: Same as 4th row, but having 2 more sps than in previous row of sps. Ch 5, turn.

9th to 19th rows incl

9th to 19th rows incl: Repeat the last 4 rows (5th to 8th rows), having 10 sps on the 12th row, and 12 sps on the 16th row. The 19th row, which completes a group of 5 ridges, will have 31 sc. Ch 1, turn.

20th row

20th row: Same as 4th row (6 sps only). Ch 1, turn.

21st row

21st row: Sc in each st across (15 sc). Ch 1, turn.

Repeat note

Repeat 2nd to 21st rows incl. until 7 groups of 5 ridges are made, ending with the 19th row of the 7th group. This sc ridge marks center of lower point of jabot.

Next row

Next row: Same as 4th row, but having 12 sps. Ch 1, turn. Then work 3 rows of sc as before. Ch 1, turn.

Following row

Following row: Same as 4th row, but having 10 sps. Ch 1, turn. Work 3 more rows of sc as before. Ch 1, turn.

Next row

Next row: Same as 4th row, but having 8 sps. Ch 1, turn. Work 3 rows of sc as before. Ch 1, turn.

Following row

Following row: Same as 4th row (6 sps). Ch 1, turn. Work 3 rows of sc as before. Ch 1, turn.

Next row

Next row: Same as 4th row (6 sps). Ch 17, turn.

Following row

Following row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each st across, picking up only the back loop of each st (31 sc). Ch 1, turn. Work 2 more rows of sc as before. Ch 1, turn. Hereafter repeat from ** until 6 groups of 5 ridges are made to correspond with opposite side. Break off.

Assembly

Sew edging to center insertion, gathering it slightly around lower part and leaving upper edge of insertion free.

Neck Band

Starting

Neck Band. Starting at lower edge, make a ch to measure about 15 inches. Turn and work 3 rows of sc. At end of 3rd row, ch 4, turn.

4th row

4th row: * Skip 1 sc, 1 half dc in next sc, ch 1, repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn.

Repeat

Repeat these 4 rows 2 more times. Then work 3 more rows of sc (4 sc ridges). Break off.

Assembly

Sew jabot to center of neck band. Make a buttonloop at one side of neck band, and sew button on opposite side to correspond.

Strings

Strings

Strings. Make a ch to measure about 40 inches, turn and work 3 rows of sc. Then, * ch 15, sc in last sc of 2nd row, repeat from * until 6 loops are made. Break off. Make 6 loops to correspond with opposite end.

Crocheted Balls

Starting

Crocheted Balls. Ch 3, turn and work 6 sc in 1st ch from hook. Then, continuing to work in rnds, make 2 sc in each sc until there are 24 sc in the rnd. Work straight for 6 rnds.

Next rnd

Next rnd: * Skip 1 sc, sc in each of next 2 sc, repeat from * around until 16 sc remain in the rnd. Stuff crochet ball with cotton, and work as before until 7 sc remain. Then work sc in every other sc until all sts are worked off. Break off. Make another ball same as this and sew one to each end of string. Sew center of string to center of jabot at neck edge and tie in a double bow. Starch lightly and press.

Belt

Belt

BELT. Make a ch to measure about 30 inches, or length of belt desired. Turn and work as for neck band until 5 sc ridges are made. Break off.

Buckle

1st rnd

Buckle. 1st rnd: Starting at center, ch 6, dc in 6th ch from hook, * ch 3, dc in same ch, repeat from * 6 more times, ch 3. Join with sl st to 3rd st of ch-6 first made (8 sps). Ch 1, do not turn, but continue to work in rnds.

2nd rnd

2nd rnd: * 4 sc in next st (this to be a corner), sc in each of next 7 sts. Repeat from * around. There are 4 corners in all.

3rd rnd

3rd rnd: Sc in each sc around, making 3 sc in center sc of each corner.

4th rnd

4th rnd: Ch 3 (to count as 1 half dc and ch-1), * skip 1 sc, 1 half dc in next sc, ch 1, repeat from * around, joining last ch-1 with sl st to 2nd ch of ch-3 first made (27 sps).

5th rnd

5th rnd: Sc in each st around, making 3 sc at corners.

6th rnd

6th rnd: Sc in each sc around, 3 sc at corners (71 sc in all). Hereafter work is done in rows.

1st row

1st row: Ch 14, turn and work sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each of next 10 ch (11 sc). Ch 1, turn.

2nd row

2nd row: Sc in each sc across (11 sc). Ch 1, turn.

3rd row

3rd row: Skip 1 sc, sc in each sc across, 2 sc under remaining ch-2 of 1st ch-14 made, sc in each of next 3 sc of 6th rnd. Ch 2, turn.

4th row

4th row: Skip 4 sc from hook, 1 half dc in next sc of sc group, ch 1, skip 1 sc, 1 half dc in next sc, ch 1, skip 1 sc, dc in next sc, ch 1, skip 1 sc, dc in next sc. Ch 5, turn.

5th row

5th row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each of next 10 sts, picking up only the back loop of each st. Ch 1, turn.

Repeat

Repeat from 2nd to 5th rows incl. until 25 groups of sc ridges are made. Then repeat 4th row. Break off.

Finishing

Sew the first and last rows together. Sew buckle to one end of belt and fasten belt with hook and eyes. Starch lightly and press.
