Flower Holder and Candlesticks Pattern #5

FLOWER HOLDER (Size - 5 x 5½ inches):

Starting at center, ch 2.

7 sc in 2d ch from hook.

2 sc in each sc around.

* Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc (1 sc increased). Repeat from * around. Mark end of each rnd.

Sc in each sc, increasing 7 sc evenly around. Repeat Rnd 4 thru Rnd 12 (84 sc).

Sl st in next sc, ch 1, sc in next st, sc in each sc around; join.

Ch 1, sc at base of same sc, sc at base of each sc around; join to back lp of 1st sc.

Ch 1, working in back lp only, sc in same st, sc in each sc around; join thru both lps of 1st sc. Repeat Rnds 14 & 15 four times and Rnd 14 again (6 rnds of long sc completed).

Ch 1, sc in same st, (ch 5, sk 2 sc, sc in next sc) 27 times, ch 2, join with dc in 1st sc.

(Ch 5, sc in 3d st of next lp) 27 times, ch 2, join with dc in dc at end of last rnd. Repeat Rnd 26 six times.

(Ch 2, sc in next lp) repeated around; join.

Ch 1, sc in same place, (2 sc in next sp, sc in next sc) repeated around; join.

Ch 1, sc at base of same sc, (2 sc over next 2 sc inserting hook down into sp, sc at base of next sc) repeated around; join. Repeat Rnds 15 & 14.

Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next 5 sc, ch 12, keeping lp on hook, sl st back in 6th sc from hook, * ch 1, sl st in each st of ch-12, sc in next 3 sc, ch 12, sl st behind last lp into 3d sc to right of end of same lp; repeat from * around; sl st in next 3 sc in front of 1st lp, then make final (28th) lp, Fasten off.

Ch 2, 6 sc in 2d ch from hook. Working in back lp only, repeat Rnds 2 & 3 of Base. Cup circle with right-side-inside.

Make 2 rnds even. Insert a large marble.

* Sc in next sc, dec 1 sc (to dec 1 sc, sc in next 2 sc working off these 2 sc as 1 sc). Repeat from * 8 times. (Sk 1 sc, sl st in next sc) 4 times. Fasten off. Make 4. Sew under edge of Base, evenly spaced.

CANDLESTICK (Size-3¾ x 2 inches):

Repeat thru Rnd 3. 2 sc in next sc, sl st in next sc.

Ch 1, turn, sc in back lp of 22 sc around; join.

Ch 1, sc at base of each sc around; join to back lp of 1st sc.

Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in back lp of each sc around; join thru both lps of 1st sc. Repeat Rnds 2 & 3 three times and Rnd 2 again (5 rnds of long sc made).

(Ch 3, sl st in next sc) repeated around; join and fasten off.

Attach to remaining lp of 1 sc on edge of Base, ch 1, sc in same st, sc in each st around (22 sc); join.

Ch 1, sc at base of same sc, * (2 sc at base of next sc, sc at base of next 2 sc) * 6 times, 2 sc at base of next sc, sc at base of next sc, 2 sc at base of next sc; join to back lp of 1st sc (30 long sc).

Ch 1, sc in back lp of each sc around; join.

Ch 1, sc at base of same sc, repeat from * to * in Rnd 2 around (40 sc); join. Repeat Rnd 3.

Like Rnd 2 but inc in every 4th sc (50 sc); join. Repeat Rnd 3.

Like Rnd 2 but inc in every 5th sc (60 sc); join.

Repeat Edge on Flower Holder (20 lps).

Ch 2, 6 sc in 2d ch from hook.

Working in back lp only, 2 sc in each sc around (12 sc).

(Sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 3 times.

Sc in next 28 sc. Insert a small marble. (Sc in next 2 sc worked off as 1 sc) 5 times; (sk 1 sc, sl st in next sc) 5 times. Fasten off. Make 4. Sew to underside of Base Border, - evenly spaced. Make a 2d Candlestick.

Starch pieces. Block Flower Holder over bottom of a quart jar. Wrap base of a candle in waxed paper, insert in Candlestick cup, turn upside down in a jar or bottle, block base flat and leave until dry.
