A giant lily boutonniere with layered center and wired petals in size 30 mercerized crochet, originally published in Spool Cotton #93, Colorful Accessories.
Materials
- Milward's steel crochet hook · No. 10
Pattern instructions
Center
Ch 12, join to form a ring.
Ch 6 (to count as dc and ch-3), * dc in ring, ch 3, repeat from * 6 more times, joining last ch 3 to 3rd st of ch-6 first made (8 sps).
Over each loop work: 1 sc, 1 half dc, 3 dc, 1 half dc, 1 sc.
Ch 5, * sc in 1st dc of 1st rnd, ch 5, repeat from * around.
Over each loop work: 1 sc, 1 half dc, 5 dc, 1 half dc, 1 sc.
Ch 7, * sc in sc between petals of 3rd rnd, ch 7. Repeat from * around.
Over each loop work: 1 sc, 1 half dc, 7 dc, 1 half dc, 1 sc with ch 1 between each st.
In each ch-1 of previous rnd work: 1 dc with ch 2 between each dc.
* Dc in next sp, ch 3, dc in same sp, ch 3, dc in next sp, ch 3. Repeat from * around.
* Ch 3, dc in next sp. Repeat from * around.
* Ch 2, ch-3 p, ch 2, dc in next sp. Repeat from * around. Break off.
To make the inner layer, attach thread to 1 dc of 2nd rnd of petals, and work as follows:
Ch 4, * dc in next st, ch 1, repeat from * around.
Repeat 7th, 8th and 10th rnds of previous layer. Break off.
Large Petals
To begin, ch 5, turn.
Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.
Sc in each sc across, making 2 sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn.
Hereafter, repeat this last row until there are 16 sc in the row. Work straight until piece measures 1¾ inches. Then decrease 1 st at beginning of each row until all sc are worked off. Break off.
Sew wire along outer edges of each petal on wrong side, leaving an additional 4-inch length of wire for stem. Wind thread closely around stem. Make 9 more petals same as this. Draw stamens through the center of flower, twist a piece of wire around stamens at back of flower. Group the petals and flower center together, and tie all together securely.
