Jack Frost Ornament Pattern

There are slight variations to materials and instructions between these two versions of the same pattern in different publications. Two versions are below.

Directions are given for rug yarn. Wool directions are given in brackets.

Wind White over 4 inch cardboard 66 (76) times, tie with an 8 inch length of yarn at one end for top of head. Tie securely about 1½ inches from top of head for neck. Tie 1½ inches from neck for waist. Divide remaining yarn in half for legs and tie each section ½ inch from each end, cut and trim for feet.

Wind White over 4 inch cardboard 22 (24) times, tie ¼ inch from each end for hands, insert through center of body and tie at each side for shoulders. Cut and trim ends for hands. With Black, embroider eyes, nose, mouth and buttons as illustrated.

With Black, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd st from hook, join in 1st sc.

Ch 1 and work 2 sc in each sc (12 sc), join.

Working in sc, increase in every other sc, join.

Increase in every 3rd sc, join.

Increase in every 4th sc, join, (30 sc).

Working in back loop of st, 1 sc in each sc, join.

Working through both loops of sts and joining each row, work 1 sc in each sc.

Working through front loop of st, work 1 sc in each sc, join.

Working through both loops, work in sc increasing 1 sc in every 6th sc, join.

Increase in every 7th sc, join.

Increase in every 8th sc, join.

Work 1 sc in each sc, cut yarn.

Draw yarn at top of head through center of hat and tie as illustrated. Sew hat to head. If desired brush hat with glue and sprinkle with artificial snow.

With White make body and arms same as body for Santa Claus. Tie top of head, neck, arms, waist and feet with White. With Black embroider eyes, nose, mouth and buttons as illustrated.

Same as hat for large snow man on page 8, but cutting black felt for crown ¾ inch x 2¾ inches. Large circle should be 1¾ inches in diameter and small circle inch in diameter.

Overcast short straight edge of crown together. Overcast small circle to one end of crown. Overcast large circle to other end of crown for brim. Draw yarn at top of head through center of hat.
