Lapel Flower Pattern #2634
A lapel flower with two petal layers, stuffed center, and twisted-thread stem in size 50 mercerized crochet, originally published in Spool Cotton #191, Gift Shopping with Crochet.
Materials
- Steel crochet hook · No. 12 or 13
Pattern instructions
Petal
Starting at center, ch 25.
Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 3, sc in same place as last sc; now working along opposite side of foundation ch, make sc in each ch across to last 3 sc, do not work in last 3 sc (this is tip of petal). Ch 5, turn. Hereafter work only in the back loop of each sc.
Sc in each sc across to ch-3 loop; in ch-3 loop make sc, ch 3 and sc; sc in each sc across to last 3 sc. Ch 5, turn. Repeat the 2nd row 6 more times. Now work sc in each sc across to ch-3 loop at base of petal. Sl st in loop. Fasten off. This completes 1 petal. Make 5 more petals same as this. Starting at base, sew adjacent sides of petals to within last 5 sc. This completes one layer of petals. Make another layer same as this.
Center
Ch 2.
6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Do not join rnds. Work in both loops of each sc.
2 sc in each sc (12 sc in rnd).
* Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc. Repeat from * around.
Sc in each sc around.
* Sc in next 2 sc, skip 1 sc. Repeat from * around. Repeat this rnd, stuffing with cotton before opening becomes too small. Close opening and fasten off.
Stem
Ch 8.
Sc in 2nd and each following ch across. Ch 1, turn. Work only in the back loop of each sc.
Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat the 2nd row until piece measures 3¾ inches. Fasten off.
Measure off 32 strands of same thread, each strand being 3¾ inches long. Twist these strands. Fold stem-piece lengthwise over these strands and sew the two long edges together. Place petal layers over each other and sew center in place (see illustration). Sew one end of stem to under part of flower.
