Materials Required— AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "STAR" MERCERIZED CROCHET COTTON 1175-yd. Ball White, Size 50. Strip Material 12 x 5 inches. Cotton for Stuffing. Steel Crochet Hook No. 12.

To make pincushion

Fold material in half, sew 1 long and 1 short end together, turn, stuff with cotton and sew other side.

COVER. Ch 8, join to form a ring, ch 1 and work 12 sc in ring, join in 1st sc.

2nd Row

2nd Row—Ch 4, 2 trc in same space, * ch 1, 3 trc in each sc, repeat from * all around, ch 1, join in 4th st of ch.

3rd Row

3rd Row—Sl st to ch 1, ch 4, * thread over twice, insert in same space, work off 2 loops twice, repeat from * twice, thread over and work off all loops at one time, ** ch 5, cluster st in next 1 ch loop, (cluster st: * thread over twice, insert in same space, work off 2 loops twice, repeat from * 3 times, thread over and work off all loops at one time) repeat from ** all around, ch 5, join in top of cluster st.

4th Row

4th Row—Ch 5, sc in same space, 4 sc over 5 ch loop, * sc, ch 5, sc in next cluster st, 4 sc over next 5 ch loop, repeat from all around, join.

5th Row

5th Row—Sl st to loop, * work 3 cluster sts with ch 5 between each cluster st in same space, ch 3, sc in next loop, ch 5, sc in next loop, ch 3, repeat from * all around, join in cluster st.

6th Row

6th Row—Sl st to loop, * 3 cluster sts with ch 5 between each cluster st in same space, ch 5, 3 cluster sts with ch 5 between each cluster st in next loop, ch 7, skip 1 loop, sc in next loop, ch 7, skip 1 loop, repeat from * all around, join in cluster st.

7th Row

7th Row—Sl st to center of loop, sc over same loop and work 8 ch loops all around, ch 3, trc in 1st sc. (This brings thread in correct position for next row.)

8th Row

8th Row—Work a row of 9 ch loops, ch 4, trc in trc.

9th Row

9th Row—Work a row of 10 ch loops, ch 4, trc in trc.

10th Row

10th Row—Work a row of 11 ch loops, ch 5, trc in trc, break thread.

11th Row

11th Row—Join thread in center st in corner loop, ** ch 10, sc in same space, * ch 20, sc in same space, repeat from * 4 times, ch 10, sc in same space, * ch 10, sc in next loop, repeat from * 5 times, ch 10, sc in center st in next corner loop, ch 10, sc in same space, * ch 20, sc in same space, repeat from * 4 times, ch 10, sc in same space, * ch 3, 7 sc over next loop, repeat from * 5 times, ch 3, sc in center st in next corner loop, repeat from **.

12th Row

12th Row—Sl st to center of 10 ch loop, * ch 7, sc in next loop, repeat from * 5 times, sc in next loop, * ch 11, sc in next loop, repeat from * 5 times, sc in 10 ch loop at corner, * ch 7, sc in next loop, repeat from * 5 times, sc in center sc of next sc group, * ch 11, sc in center sc of next sc group, repeat from * 4 times, sc in next 10 ch loop at corner, then repeat from 1st * all around.

13th Row

13th Row—* 7 sc over loop, 1 sc over next sc, repeat from * 5 times, 10 sc over each of the next 6 loops, then repeat from beginning all around.

14th Row

14th Row—Working in back loop of st only, 1 sc in each sc, JOIN.

15th Row

15th Row—Work a 6 ch loop in every other st, ch 2, trc in 1st sc.

16th Row

16th Row—Work a 7 ch loop in each loop, ch 3, trc in trc.

Next 3 Rows

Next 3 Rows—Continue working loops increasing 1 ch in each loop of each row and ch 4, trc in trc at end of each row.

20th Row

20th Row—Sc over trc, ch 5, sl st in sc for picot, 5 sc over same loop, * 6 sc over next loop, ch 5, sl st in last sc for picot, 5 sc over same loop, repeat from * all around, 5 sc over remainder of 1st loop, join, break thread.
