Pattern instructions

First Motif

FIRST MOTIF

Make a strip of hairpin lace, having 84 loops on each side of staple. Break off.

Center

Now form center as follows: Keeping the twist in all loops, attach thread to first loop, sc in same loop, sc in next 20 loops, ch 7, sc in next 21 loops, ch 3, sl st in previous ch-7 loop, ch 3, (sc in next 21 loops, ch 3, sl st in joining of loops, ch 3) twice. Join with sl st to first sc made. Break off. Sew hairpin lace together at center.

1st rnd

Now work around outer edge as follows: 1st rnd: Keeping all loops straight, attach thread to 4th loop, sc in same loop, * (ch 3, sc in next loop) 14 times; make a sl st through next 6 loops, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around, ending with sl st through last 6 loops. Join to first sc.

2nd rnd

2nd rnd: Sl st in next 3 ch and in next sc, sl st in next loop, sc in same loop, * (ch 3, sc in next loop) 5 times; ch 9, (sc in next loop, ch 3) 5 times; sc in next loop, ch 9, skip next 2 loops, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join.

3rd rnd

3rd rnd: Sl st in next loop, sc in same loop, * (ch 3, sc in next loop) 4 times; ch 5, in next loop make 2 dc, ch 3 and 2 dc; ch 5, (sc in next loop, ch 3) 4 times; (sc in next loop, ch 5) twice; sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join.

4th rnd

4th rnd: Sl st in next loop, sc in same loop, * (ch 3, sc in next loop) 3 times; ch 5, dc in next 2 dc, in next sp make 2 dc, ch 3 and 2 dc; dc in next 2 dc, ch 5, skip next sp, (sc in next loop, ch 3) 3 times; sc in next loop, ch 5, sc in next loop, sc in next sc, sc in next loop, ch 5, skip next sp, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join.

5th rnd: Sl st in next loop, sc in same loop, * (ch 3, sc in next loop) twice; ch 5, dc in next 4 dc, in next sp make 2 dc, ch 3 and 2 dc; dc in next 4 dc, ch 5, skip next sp, (sc in next loop, ch 3) twice; sc in next loop, (ch 5, sc in next loop) twice; ch 5, skip next sp, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join.

6th rnd

6th rnd: Sl st in next loop, sc in same loop, * ch 3, sc in next loop, ch 5, dc in next 3 dc, ch 5, in next sp make 2 dc, ch 7 and 2 dc; ch 5, skip next 3 dc, dc in next 3 dc, ch 5, skip next sp, sc in next loop, ch 3, sc in next loop, ch 5, skip next sp, in next sp make (2 sc, ch 3) 3 times and 2 sc (3 picots made); ch 5, skip next sp, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join and break off.
