Materials: Clark's O. N. T. (60 balls) or J. & P. Coats (40 balls) of Mercerized Crochet, size 30. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 10. 2 small buttons. 30 inches of narrow elastic.

Blouse Back

Starting chain

BLOUSE Back. Starting at waist, just above band, ch 200 (to measure about 16 inches), turn.

1st row

1st row: Dc in 5th ch from hook, * ch 2, skip 2 ch, dc in next ch, repeat from * across (66 sps). Ch 4, turn.

2nd row

2nd row: Dc in 1st dc, sc in 1st sp, * 4 dc with ch-1 between dc's in next sp (1 shell), sc in next sp, repeat from * across, ending row with sc in 2nd sp from end, then 2 dc in last sp (32 shells and a ½ shell at each end). Ch 4, turn.

3rd row

3rd row: Dc in 2nd dc, * make a shell between 2nd and 3rd dc's of next shell of previous row (a shell is made over shell of previous row) repeat from * across, ending row with 2 dc in turning ch-4. Ch 4, turn.

4th row

4th row: Dc in 2nd dc, * shell over next shell, sc in space between this and next shell, repeat from * across, ending with 2 dc in turning ch-4 after the last shell. Ch 4, turn.

Repeat pattern

Repeat the last 2 rows until work measures 8 inches. Ch 5, turn.

Armhole shaping 1st row

To Shape Armholes: 1st row: Sc in center of 1st shell, ch 5, sc in center of next shell, ch 3, shell over next shell (2½ shells decreased) and work in pattern across to within the last 22 shells, then ch 3, sc in next shell, ch 4, turn (22 shells decreased).

Armhole shaping 2nd row

2nd row: Shell over first shell, and continue in pattern across (28 shells), then sc in next ch-3 sp. Ch 3, turn.

Armhole shaping 3rd row

3rd row: Sc in next shell (1 shell decreased), work in pattern across until 26 shells are made, then ch 3, sc in next shell, ch 3, turn.

Armhole shaping 4th row

4th row: Work in pattern across, ending row with 2 dc in ch-3. Ch 4, turn.

Armhole shaping 5th row

5th row: Same as 4th row. Ch 4, turn (26 shells and a shell at each end). Work straight until work measures 7 inches from 1st row of armhole shaping.

Shoulder shaping

Then to shape shoulder, decrease 2½ shells at both ends of next row, then 2 shells at both ends of each of next 3 rows (10 shells remain). Work next row straight. Break off.

Blouse Right Front

Starting chain

Right Front. Starting at waist, ch 170 (to measure about 15 inches), turn. Work in pattern as for back (having 27 shells and a ½ shell at each end) for 3 rows.

Center front increases

Then, keeping one edge straight (side edge), increase ½ shell on next row and on every 4th row thereafter at opposite edge (center front edge), until work measures 8 inches in all.

Armhole shaping

To Shape Armhole: Decrease 2 shells at side edge on next row and 1 shell every other row at same edge until 4 shells are decreased at armhole edge. Hereafter, continue in pattern keeping armhole edge straight and increasing ½ shell at center front edge on next row and every 5th row thereafter until armhole measures same as armhole of back.

Shoulder shaping

Then shape shoulder same as for back, keeping front edge straight. Break off.

Blouse Left Front

Left Front

Left Front. Same as right front. Sew up underarm and shoulder seams.

Sleeves

Starting chain

Sleeves. Starting at bottom, ch 134 (to measure about 12 inches). Work in pattern as for back (22 shells in the row), increasing a ½ shell at both ends every 2 inch until there are 28 shells in the row.

Top shaping

To shape top of sleeve, decrease ½ shell at both ends of each of next 6 rows. Then decrease 2 shell at both ends of every other row until 6 shells and shell at each end remain. Break off.

Sleeve Band

1st row

Sleeve Band: Attach thread to foundation chain of sleeve, ch 3, make 2 dc in each sp. Ch 3, turn.

2nd and 3rd rows

2nd and 3rd rows: Dc in each dc. Ch 3, turn.

4th row

4th row: Skip 1 dc, * make a shell in next dc, skip 1 dc, sc in next dc, skip 1 dc, repeat from * across. Sew up sleeve seams and sew into armholes.

Waist Band

1st row

Waist Band: 1st row: Attach thread to center front at waist, ch 4, * dc in next sp, ch 2, repeat from * around waist, ch 3, turn.

2nd row

2nd row: Make 2 dc in each sp. Ch 3, turn.

3rd to 6th rows

3rd to 6th rows incl: Dc in each dc. Ch 3, turn.

7th row

7th row: Same as 4th row of sleeve band. Make 2 ch-7 buttonloops across band on right side.

Frill

1st row

Frill: Attach thread to 1st sp just above waistband on right front and work along center front edge as follows: 1st row: * Ch 4, sc under dc of next row, repeat from * to next corner (neck edge). Make 3 loops in corner shell, then ** ch 4, sc in center ch-1 of next shell, repeat from ** across and around back of neck. Then work down edge of left front to within waistband. Ch 4, turn.

2nd row

2nd row: Sc in 1st loop, * ch 4, sc in next loop, repeat from * along entire row. Ch 4, turn.

3rd row

3rd row: * Sc in next loop, ch 4, sc in next loop (2 loops made), make 3 more loops, then ch 4, 4-dc cluster in next loop, ch 4, 4-dc cluster in same loop (a group of clusters), ch 4, repeat from * across, ending with 5 loops. Ch 4, turn.

4th row

4th row: Work as for 3rd row, making 3 4-dc clusters with ch 4 between each cluster, between the 2 clusters of previous row. There will be 8 loops between cluster groups. Ch 4, turn.

5th row

5th row: Work a row of loops around. Ch 4, turn.

6th row

6th row: Work as for 3rd row, making cluster groups in center loop (thus starting a new cluster group between clusters made previously). Ch 4, turn.

7th and 8th rows

7th and 8th rows: Same as 4th and 5th rows. Cover buttons with crochet and sew on as in illustration.

Skirt Back

Starting chain

SKIRT Back. Starting at bottom, ch 359 (to measure about 28 inches), turn.

1st row

1st row: Sc in 5th ch from hook, * ch 3, skip 2 ch, sc in next ch, repeat from * across (119 loops). Ch 4, turn.

2nd row

2nd row: Dc in 1st loop, * sc in next loop, make a shell in next loop (as in blouse), repeat from * across, ending row with sc in 2nd loop from end, then 2 dc in last loop (58 shells and a ½ shell at each end). Ch 4, turn.

Work in pattern

Work in shell pattern as in blouse until work measures 9 inches. Ch 4, turn.

Decrease repeat

* Next row: Skip the ½ shell, make a ½ shell in next shell (one shell decreased), and continue in pattern across. Ch 4, turn. Repeat this last row once more (56 shells and a ½ shell at each end remain). Work in pattern straight for 2 inches. Then repeat from * 5 more times (46 shells and ½ shell at each end remain). Ch 4, turn.

Final shaping

Then decrease at beginning of each of next 2 rows as before. Work straight for 3 rows. Repeat the last 5 rows 4 more times. Work straight until work measures 31 inches. Break off.

Skirt Front

Front

Front. Same as back. Then sew up side seams.

Beading

Beading

Beading: Attach thread to center of any one shell at waistline, * ch 5, sc in center of next shell, repeat from * around. Break off. Run elastic through beading and sew ends together.
