Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 2/0 (double zero). 136 bone rings, 1½ inches in diameter, and 241 rings, ½ inch in diameter. Place Mat measures 11 x 17 inches. Hot Plate Mat measures 7 x 11 inches.

PLACE MAT-First Motif ... 1st rnd: With Flamingo make 12 sc in small ring. Join and break off. 2nd rnd: Holding small ring inside large ring and working over large ring, attach White to any sc on small ring, 2 sc in same place, 2 sc in each sc around. Join and break off.

SECOND MOTIF... Work as for First Motif until small ring has been covered. 2nd rnd: Holding small ring inside large ring and working over large ring, attach White to any sc, 2 sc in same place, 2 sc in next 5 sc, sl st in any sc on First Motif, 2 sc in each remaining sc on Second Motif. Join and break off.

Make 8 rows of 12 motifs, joining as Second Motif was joined to First Motif, leaving 5 sc free between joinings on each motif.

FILL-IN-MOTIF ... With Flamingo make 3 sc in small ring, sl st in center sc on any motif, (5 sc in ring, sl st in center sc on next motif) 3 times. Join and break off. Fill in all sps between motifs the same way.

HOT PLATE MAT... Make 5 rows of 8 motifs. Complete as for Place Mat.
