Please Check It Runner Pattern #7569

M ATERIALS: J.& P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN, 2 balls of alight color and 3 balls of a dark color. Steel crochet hook No. 7. Completed runner measures about 15 x 36 inches. GAUGE: Each motif measures 2% inches square.

FIRST MOTIF... Starting at center with dark color, ch 8. Join with sl st to form aring.

Ist rnd: Ch 3, 2 dc inring, (ch 3,3 dcinring) 3 times; ch 3, sist to top of Ist ch-3.

2nd rnd: Ch3, dcinnext 2 dc, ch5, then holding back the last loop of each tron hook make 3 trin next sp, thread over and draw through all 3 loops on hook (cluster made). * Ch 5, dc innext 3 dc, ch5, clusterin next sp. Repeat from * 2 more times, ch 5, sl stintop of ch-3.

3rd rnd: Ch 3, dcin next 2 dc, *(ch 5, cluster in next sp) twice; ch 5, dc in next 5 dc. Repeat from * around, ending with ch-5, sl st in top of ch-3.

4th rnd: Ch 4, then holding back the last loop of each tronhook work trin next 2 sts, thread over and complete a cluster as before. * Ch 5, scinnextsp, ch 5, 2 clusters with ch 5 between in next sp, ch 5, sc innext sp, ch 5, cluster over next 3 dc. Repeat from * around ending withch 5, slstintop of Ist cluster. Fasten off.

SECOND MOTIF... With light color, work Ist 3 rnds as for Ist motif. 4th rnd: Ch 4, then holding back the last loop of each tronhook work trin next 2 sts, thread over and complete aCluster as before, ch5,scinnextsp, ch 5, cluster in next sp, ch 2, scin corner loop of Ist motif, ch 2, clusterinsame sp on 2nd motif, ch 5, sc innext sp, ch 5, cluster over next 3 dc, sl stinto top of corresponding cluster of Ist motif, ch 5, sc innext sp of 2nd motif, ch 5, cluster in next sp, ch 2, sc innext corner loop of Ist motif, ch 2, clusterinsame sp of 2nd motif. Complete rnd as for Ist motif (no more joinings). Continue to make dark and light motifs alternately, joining as 2nd motif was joined to Ist (see illustration), until 55 dark and 40 light motifs in all have been joined. Where 4 corners meet, join 3rd and 4th corners to joining of previous corners.
