Ranunculus Vanity Set Pattern #5

MATERIALS—Lily Mercrochet Cotton:—3-large balls White size 30; 1-large ball each Lavender and Beauty Pink size 20. Lily Six Strand Floss:—2-sks. Med. Green. Crochet hook size 13.

BLOCK—(Size—3½" when blocked)—In White ch 10, sl st in Ist st. (Ch 5, sc inring) 11 times, ch 2, dc inring.

ROW 2—*(Ch 3, sc innext lp) 3 times, ch 5, scinsame lp with last sc. Repeat from * 3 times, ending with ch 2 and dc for final cornerlo.

ROW 3—* (Ch 3, sc innext lp) repeated across to corner, ch 5, scin same corner |p. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 2 and dc for final corner |p.

Repeat Row 3 thru Row 10 (11 ch-3 lps on each side between corner lps in final row).

ROW 11—* Sk 2 Ips, (ch 3, dtr) 5 times in next lp, ch 3, sk 2 lps, sc innext lp. Repeat from * around (2 shells on each side).

ROW 12—Ch 3, (3 dcin next sp, dc in dtr, ch 4, sl stinlast dc for ap) twice, * (4 dc innext sp, dc in dtr) 3 times. Holding back the last Ip of each dc on hook, make 2 dc in next sp and 2 dc in Ist sp onnext shell, thread over and pull thru all 5 lps on hook (a Cluster made). Dc in next dtr, 2 dc in next sp, ch 4, turn, sk last 6 dc, sl stinnext dc, ch], turn, 5scinch-4 lp, 2 dcin bal. of same sp on shell, dc in dtr, 4 dc innext sp, dc in ctr, chl, turn, sl st inlast 4 dc, (ch 3, dtr) 5 times in center sc on added Ip, ch 3, sknext 4 dc, sl stinthe next 4 dc, ch], turn, ** (4 dcinnext ch-3 sp, dc in dtr,ap) 5 times, 4 dc innext sp, sl stinend dc on shell, 4 dc in next sp, dc in dtr, ap, (3 dc innext sp, dc innext st, ap) 4 times. Repeat from * around, slstin Ist ch-3, ap. Cut 6"long, threadtoa needle and fasten off on back.

Ranunculus—In Pink ch8, slstinIstch.* Ch 2, in2d ch from hook made sc, hdc, 2 dc, hdc and sc, sc inring. Repeat from * 5 more times (6 petals).

ROW 2—* Ch 2, in 2d ch from hook make sc, hdc, 4 dc,hdc and sc, then, inserting hook from behind petals, make sc in back Ip of sc between next 2 petals. Make another petal, sc insame sc. Repeat from * 5 times (12 petals).

ROW 3—(Make a petal as in last row, sc in back |p of sc between next 2 petals) 12 times. Fasten off. Tack center to center of Block. In Green Floss embroider 3 leaves in Lazy Daisy Stitch from flower towards each corner of center square. Make a large Green French Knot in flower center.

2d BLOCK—Repeat to ** in Row 12. (4 dc in next sp, dc in dtr,ap) 3 times, 4dcinnext sp, dcin dtr, ch 2, sl stin matching p on Ist Block, ch 2, sl st back inlast dc to complete joining p. Join each of the next 8 ps on each Block in same way, then complete as for Ist Block. Make a Lavender flower for this Block. Continue to make and join Blocks by 9 ps on each side, leaving the center p at each corner free. Alternate colors of flowers.

LARGE DOILY—Make 15 Blocks andjoin 3x5.

SMALL DOILY—Make 6 Blocks and join 2x 3. Make 2d Doily. Stretch and pin doilies right-side-down in true shape on a well-padded board. Steam and press dry thru a cloth.
