Materials
MATERIALS: J. & P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN, 2 balls of Light and 3 balls of Dark. Steel Crochet Hook No. 6. Gauge: Each motif measures about 2 inches square.
First Motif
First Motif ... Starting at center with Dark, ch 8. Join with sl stto formring. Ist rnd: Ch 3, 23 dcinring. Slstintop st of ch-3.
2nd rnd: Ch 3, holding back the last loop of each dc onhook make dc in each of next 2 dc, thread over and draw through allloops on hook (3-dc cluster made), * ch 5, holding back the last loop of each dc on hook make dc in each of next 3 dc and complete cluster as before. Repeat from * around, joining last ch-5 with sl st to tip of lst cluster made.
3rd rnd: Ch 3, intip of Ist cluster make (cluster, ch 5) twice and cluster, * ch 5, sc intip of next cluster, ch 5, in tio of next cluster make three 3-dc clusters with ch-5 between. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-5 to tip of Ist cluster made. Fasten off.
Second Motif
Second Motif... Work as for Ist motif until 2nd rnd is com- plete. 3rd rnd: Ch 3, intip of Ist cluster make cluster, ch5 and cluster, ch 2, so in corresponding loop on Ist motif, ch 2, clusterinsame cluster on 2nd motif, ch 2, sc innext loop on Ist motif, ch 2, sc in top of next cluster on 2nd motif, ch 2, sc innext loop on Ist motif, ch 2, cluster in next cluster on 2nd motif, ch 2, sc in corresponding loop on Ist motif, ch 2, in same cluster on 2nd motif make cluster, ch 5 and cluster. Complete motif with no more joinings. Fasten off.
Assembly
Make 7 more Dark motifs, joining them as 2nd was joined to Ist. This completes 1 row of motifs. Make 2 more rows of Dark motifs, joining them as worked to corresponding loops of previous motifs. Now work 5 rows of motifs, alternating Light and Dark motifs in checkerboard fashion. Work 6 rows of Light motifs, 5 rows in checkerboard; end with 3 rows of Dark motifs.
