Sports Jacket Pattern #169
Size 34-36 sports jacket worked with one strand Spanish Red knitting-and-crochet cotton and one strand Navy Blue size 10 together, with patterned stitch, raglan sleeves, and collar band. Originally published in Spool Cotton #62, Fashions of Today.

Use one strand of each color together.
(Count the turning ch-3 as 1 dc throughout directions).
Back Left Half
Beginning at lower edge, ch 51, turn. (Using one strand of each color).
Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each st of foundation ch, ch 5, turn.
Insert hook in 1st dc, * draw out a loop, ch 2 (leaving 2 loops on hook) thread over, skip next 2 dc, insert hook in next dc, draw out a loop, (4 loops on hook), thread over and work off 2 loops at a time (as a tr). Ch 2, insert hook in same st. Repeat from * to end of row, ending with ch-2 and always make a dc to make edge even. Ch 3, turn.
Dc under next ch-2 sp. Make a long dc in next triangular sp, * 2 dc under next ch-2 sp, make a long dc in next triangular sp. Repeat from * to end of row making 1 dc in turning ch-5. Ch 5, turn.
Alternate 2nd and 3rd rows. At end of 9th row ch 5, turn.
To shape side seam at waistline, work thus—insert hook in 1st dc, * draw out a loop, ch 2 (leaving 2 loops on hook), thread over, skip next 3 dc, (this is a decrease) insert hook in next dc, draw out a loop, (4 loops on hook), thread over and work off 2 loops at a time. Ch 2, insert hook in same st. Repeat from * 2 more times. Then continue with pattern throughout the row, as done previously, skipping 2-dc instead of 3-dc, ch 3, turn.
Work evenly.
Same as 10th row.
Work evenly. At end of 29th row, ch 5, turn.
To increase at this point, work as follows: Insert hook in 1st dc, * draw out a loop, ch 2, (leaving 2 loops on hook), thread over, skip next 1-dc, insert hook in next dc, draw out a loop, (4 loops on hook), thread over and work off 2 loops at a time (as a tr). Ch 2, insert hook in same st. Repeat from * 2 more times, then continue with pattern for the rest of the row, skipping 2 dc instead of 1 dc. Ch 3, turn.
Work evenly.
Same as 50th row.
Work evenly this and all odd rows throughout.
Same as 30th row.
Begin to shape armhole. Same as 10th row.
Same as 10th row.
Work evenly.
Work this and all even rows to 68th row incl, same as 10th row.
Work evenly, break off.
Back Right Half
Reverse directions for left half of back. That is, make increases and decreases at end of rows instead of at the beginning. This is very important, since there is a right and a wrong side of the work.
Front Right Side
Ch 72, turn.
Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each st of foundation ch, ch 5, turn.
Continue with pattern evenly. At end of 25th row, ch 5, turn.
Same as 10th row of left half of back.
Work evenly. At end of 33rd row, ch 5, turn.
Same as 30th row of left half of back.
Work evenly.
Same as 34th row.
Work evenly.
Alternate 38th and 39th rows. At end of 43rd row, ch 1, turn.
Begin to shape armhole, sc in each of next 9 dc, ch 5, insert hook in st where last sc was made, then continue from * of 10th row of left half of back.
Work evenly, ch 1, turn.
Sc in 1st dc, sc in each of next 3 dc, ch 5, insert hook in st where last sc was made, then continue from * of 10th row of back.
Work evenly this and all odd rows from here on to 67th row (last row).
Work same as 10th row of back for this and all even rows (excepting 60th row which is worked same as 46th row). At end of 67th row, fasten off.
Front Left Side
Reverse directions for right side of front. That is, shaping side seam and armhole at end of rows instead of beginning.
Raglan Sleeve Right
Ch 52, turn.
Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each st of foundation ch, ch 5, turn.
Work evenly in jacket pattern.
To increase at this point work thus: insert hook in 1st dc, * draw out a loop, ch 2, (leaving 2 loops on hook), thread over, skip next 1-dc, insert hook in next dc, draw out a loop, (4 loops on hook), thread over and work off 2 loops at a time, ch 2, insert hook in same st. * Repeat from * to * 2 more times, then continue with pattern, skipping 2 dc instead of 1 dc to within 6 dc (including turning ch-3) from end of row, then insert hook in same st. Repeat from * to * 3 times, dc to make edge even, ch 3, turn.
Work evenly.
Same as 6th row. Work evenly all other rows to 53rd row incl. At end of 53rd row, ch 1, turn.
Begin to shape sleeve. Sc in 1st dc, sc in each of next 6 dc, ch 5, insert hook in st where last sc was made, and continue with pattern to within 6 dc from end of row (counting the turning ch-3 as 1 dc). Ch 3, turn.
Work evenly. Ch 1, turn.
Sc in 1st dc, sc in each of next 4 dc, ch 5, insert hook in st where last sc was made, * draw out a loop, ch 2 (leaving 2 loops on hook), thread over, skip next 3 dc, (this is a decrease), insert hook in next dc, draw out a loop, (4 loops on hook) thread over and work off 2 loops at a time. Ch 2, insert hook in same st. Repeat from * across to within 4 dc from end of row, ch 3, turn.
Work evenly. At the end of 61st row ch 1, turn.
Sc in 1st dc, sc in each of next 3 dc, ch 5, insert hook in st where last sc was made, and continue with pattern to end of row. Do not decrease at this end. Ch 3, turn.
Work evenly, ch 1, turn.
Same as 62nd row.
Work evenly. At the end of 67th row, ch 5, turn.

Insert hook in 1st dc, draw out a loop, ch 2, thread over, skip next 4 dc, * insert hook in next dc draw out a loop, thread over, work off 2 loops at a time. Ch 2, thread over, skip next 3 dc. Repeat from * to end of row, ch 3, turn.
Work evenly. Break off.
Reverse directions for the left sleeve (decreasing at the end of the rows instead of at the beginning). Whip seams together.
Collar Band
Holding the wrong side towards you, attach thread at front seam point of raglan sleeve. For stitch, refer again to 2nd row of back of jacket and repeat the stitch pattern. Work across to other front seam point of sleeve.
