Back Left Half

Foundation

Beginning at lower edge, ch 51, turn. (Using one strand of each color).

1st row

Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each st of foundation ch, ch 5, turn.

2nd row

Insert hook in 1st dc, * draw out a loop, ch 2 (leaving 2 loops on hook) thread over, skip next 2 dc, insert hook in next dc, draw out a loop, (4 loops on hook), thread over and work off 2 loops at a time (as a tr). Ch 2, insert hook in same st. Repeat from * to end of row, ending with ch-2 and always make a dc to make edge even. Ch 3, turn.

3rd row

Dc under next ch-2 sp. Make a long dc in next triangular sp, * 2 dc under next ch-2 sp, make a long dc in next triangular sp. Repeat from * to end of row making 1 dc in turning ch-5. Ch 5, turn.

4th to 9th rows incl

Alternate 2nd and 3rd rows. At end of 9th row ch 5, turn.

10th row

To shape side seam at waistline, work thus—insert hook in 1st dc, * draw out a loop, ch 2 (leaving 2 loops on hook), thread over, skip next 3 dc, (this is a decrease) insert hook in next dc, draw out a loop, (4 loops on hook), thread over and work off 2 loops at a time. Ch 2, insert hook in same st. Repeat from * 2 more times. Then continue with pattern throughout the row, as done previously, skipping 2-dc instead of 3-dc, ch 3, turn.

11th to 19th rows incl

Work evenly.

20th row

Same as 10th row.

21st to 29th rows incl

Work evenly. At end of 29th row, ch 5, turn.

30th row

To increase at this point, work as follows: Insert hook in 1st dc, * draw out a loop, ch 2, (leaving 2 loops on hook), thread over, skip next 1-dc, insert hook in next dc, draw out a loop, (4 loops on hook), thread over and work off 2 loops at a time (as a tr). Ch 2, insert hook in same st. Repeat from * 2 more times, then continue with pattern for the rest of the row, skipping 2 dc instead of 1 dc. Ch 3, turn.

31st to 35th rows incl

Work evenly.

Back Right Half

Work

Reverse directions for left half of back. That is, make increases and decreases at end of rows instead of at the beginning. This is very important, since there is a right and a wrong side of the work.

Work same as 10th row of back for this and all even rows (excepting 60th row which is worked same as 46th row). At end of 67th row, fasten off.

Front Left Side

Work

Reverse directions for right side of front. That is, shaping side seam and armhole at end of rows instead of beginning.

Work evenly in jacket pattern.

To increase at this point work thus: insert hook in 1st dc, * draw out a loop, ch 2, (leaving 2 loops on hook), thread over, skip next 1-dc, insert hook in next dc, draw out a loop, (4 loops on hook), thread over and work off 2 loops at a time, ch 2, insert hook in same st. * Repeat from * to * 2 more times, then continue with pattern, skipping 2 dc instead of 1 dc to within 6 dc (including turning ch-3) from end of row, then insert hook in same st. Repeat from * to * 3 times, dc to make edge even, ch 3, turn.

7th row

Work evenly.

8th, 16th, 24th, 30th, 36th, 42nd, and 48th rows

Same as 6th row. Work evenly all other rows to 53rd row incl. At end of 53rd row, ch 1, turn.

83rd row

Work evenly. Break off.

Left sleeve

Reverse directions for the left sleeve (decreasing at the end of the rows instead of at the beginning). Whip seams together.

Collar Band

1st to 4th rows incl

Holding the wrong side towards you, attach thread at front seam point of raglan sleeve. For stitch, refer again to 2nd row of back of jacket and repeat the stitch pattern. Work across to other front seam point of sleeve.
