Summertime Edging and Motif Towel Set Pattern #1

With Lavender and No. 7 hook ch 7, dc in 7th ch from hook, (ch 9, dtr in 9th ch from hook) repeated for length across towel. Ch 5, dtr in 5th ch from hook.

Turn, (ch 9, sc in next lp) repeated across. Fasten off.

Join Purple to dtr at end of Row 1, ch 3, * (3 dc, ch 5, 3 dc) in 1 lp of 5th (center) ch of next lp. Repeat from * across. Dc in end sc.

Ch 1, turn, * 6 dc in half of next ch-5 lp, ch 6, sl st in last dc for a p, 6 dc in bal. of lp, sc between dc-groups. Repeat from * across. Fasten off.

Sew on end of towel.

With Nile Green, ch 5, 8 dc in 5th ch from hook.

Ch 5, turn, dc in next dc, (ch 2, dc in next st) 7 times.

Ch 3, turn, dc in 1st dc, (ch 2, 2 dc in next dc) 7 times, ch 2, 2 dc in 3d ch of end ch-5.

Ch 3, turn, dc in next dc, (ch 3, dc in next 2 dc) 8 times.

Repeat Row 4 five times making 1 ch more in each lp in each row (ch-9 lps in Row 9). Fasten off. Sew 2½ inches above end of towel.

With Delft Blue ch 6, join with sl st to form ring. * Ch 8, holding back the last lp of each dc on hook make 3 dc in 5th ch from hook, thread over and draw thru all lps on hook (Cluster made), sc in ring. Repeat from * 5 times. Fasten off. Make a French Knot in center in a contrasting color. Make 2 Flowers each in Blue, Lavender, Purple, Orange and Salmon Rose and 3 in Shd. Reds. Sew around Basket as in illustration.

With Shd. Greens, (ch 14, * sc in 2d ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next 3 ch, hdc in next ch, sl st in next ch *) twice, ch 10, repeat from * to *, sl st in next 2 ch, ch 8, repeat from * to *, sl st in 6-ch between leaves, ch 8, repeat from * to *, sl st in ch-6 stem. Fasten off. Make 5 Sprays and sew around Basket.

With Nile Green, ch 6, join with sl st to form ring. * Ch 4, hdc in ring, (ch 2, hdc) 6 times in ring, ch 2, join to 2d ch of ch-4. Fasten off. Make 2.

Repeat Large Circle to *. Ch 1, 8 sc in ring, join to 1st sc. Fasten off. Make 2.

With Shd. Reds, 2 sc in 1st ch-2 sp on a Large Circle, ch 2, sc in next sp, ch 2, dc in next sp, ch 2, (tr, ch 2, tr, ch 2, dc) all in next sp, ch 2, hdc in next sp, ch 2, (hdc, ch 2, hdc) in next sp, (ch 2, sc in next sp) twice, dc in next sp, ch 1, sc in 1st sc on Small Circle, (ch 2, sc in next sc) 5 times, ch 5, sc in same sc with last sc, (ch 2, sc in next sc) twice, sc in next 2 sts, sc between wings, 3 sc across base of Large Wing, join to 1st sc. Fasten off.

Sc in 3 sc on a Small Circle, (ch 2, sc in next sc) twice, ch 5, sc in same sc with last sc, (ch 2, sc in next sc) 5 times, ch 1, dc in 1st sc on a Large Circle, sc in next sp, ch 2, sc in next sp, ch 2, (hdc, ch 2, hdc) in next sp, ch 2, hdc in next sp, ch 2, (dc, ch 2, tr, ch 2, tr) in next sp, ch 2, dc in next sp, ch 2, sc in next sp, ch 2, (2 sc in next sp) twice, sc between wings, join to 1st sc. Fasten off. Sew 2 halves tog.

With Black Tatting Cotton and No. 12 hook, ch 19, sk 1 ch, sc in next 3 ch, hdc in next 5 ch, sc in next ch, sl st in next ch, sc in next ch, hdc in next 5 ch, sc in next ch, sl st in next ch, (ch 13, sk 3 ch, sl st in 10 ch, sl st in body) twice. Working on opposite side of ch, make sc in next ch, hdc in next 5 ch, sc in next ch, sl st in next ch, sc in next ch, hdc in next 5 ch, sc in next 2 ch, sl st in next ch. Fasten off. Sew Body in place. Make 2d Butterfly with Orange Circles and Blue wings, 3d Butterfly with Salmon Rose Circles and Purple wings. Sew above Basket as in illustration. Steam and press towel on back.

Repeat Edging. Repeat Basket thru Row 6. Make one Flower each in Orange, Lavender and Shd. Reds, and 2 Flowers each in Salmon Rose, Purple and Blue. Make 4 Leaf Sprays with only 3 petals on each. Repeat 1st and 2d Butterflies. Sew Basket 1/4 inches above end of towel. Sew Flowers, Leaves and Butterflies in place as in illustration.

Make a No. 1 Butterfly, a Blue Flower and a Leaf Spray. Sew on one corner.

With Lavender, (ch 5, dc in 5th ch from hook) repeated for around wash cloth, join and fasten off.

With Purple make (3 sc, ch 3, sl st in last sc for a p, and 2 sc) in each lp around. Sew Edge in place.
