ATERIALS: For best results use— Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Best Six Cord Mercerized Crochet, Size 50: Small Ball: Clark's O.N.T.—10 balls of White or Ecru, or 18 or balls of any color. J, & P. Coats—7 balls of White or Ecru, or 10 balls of any color. Big Ball: Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats—4 balls of White or Ecru. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 12. Completed runner measures about 18 x 42 inches.
Runner
Gauge: 9 sps make 2 inches; 9 rows make 2 inches.
Start at right side of chart, make a chain 20 inches long (18 chsts to linch). Ist row: Trin 5thch from hook andin next 19 ch (5 bls); * ch3, skip 3 ch, trin next ch (1 sp); trin next 8 ch(2 bls). Repeat from * 23 more times; make | sp, 5 bls. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 4, turn.
2nd to 5th rows incl: 5 bls over 5 bls below, * sp over sp, 2 bls over 2 bls. Repeat from * 23 more times, sp over sp, 5 bls over 5 bis below. Ch 4, turn. Ch 7 to turn at end of Sth row.
6th row: Skip 3 tr, trin next tr (sp); ch 3, skip 3 tr, trin next tr (another sp); 3 more sps, ch 1, skip 1 ch of next sp, trin next ch, ch], trin next tr (a shadow sp). Make 2 more shadow sps, * 1 sp, 2 shadow sps. Repeat from * 22 more times, make a shadow sp, 5sps. Ch4, turn.
7th row: 3 trinnext sp, trin next tr(bl over sp); 4 more bls over sps below; (ch 1], trin next tr) twice—a shadow sp over a shadow sp. Make 2 more shadow sps, * asp, 2 shadow sps. Repeat from * 21 more times; make 1sp, 3 shadow sps, 5 bis. Ch 4, turn.
8th row: Same as 7th row, but make ch-7 (instead of ch-4) to turn.
9th row: 5sps, * ch 3, skip 2 shadow sps, trin next tr. Repeat from * across, ending with 5 sps over last 5 bls. Ch 4, turn.
1Oth and 11th rows: Same as /thand 8th rows.
12th to 15th rows incl: Repeat 9th, 1Oth, llth and 9th rows.
l6th row: 5blis, 3shadowsps, 15sps,1bl, 5lsps, 3 shadow sps, 5 bis. Ch 4, turn and follow chart to end. Now repeat 9th, 1Oth and Ilth rows 18 more times. Then repeat the 9th row once more. Now reverse chart and work back to the Ist row. Fasten off.
