Tailored Boutonniere Pattern #470
A crochet tailored boutonniere with white stuffed centers, black petals, and white leaves on wire stems, originally published in Spool Cotton #121, Gay Gadgets.
Materials
- Milward's steel crochet hook · No. 6 or 7
Pattern instructions
Centers
With White, ch 2. (Make 3).
6 sc in 2nd ch from hook.
2 sc in each sc around.
* 2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 2 sc. Repeat from * around.
* 2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 3 sc. Repeat from * around.
Sc in each sc around. Stuff this piece firmly with cotton. Then work sc in every other sc until opening is entirely closed. Fasten and break off.
Petals
With Black, ch 3. (Make 9).
2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 2 sc in next ch. Ch 1, turn.
2 sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc. Ch 1, turn.
2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 3 sc, 2 sc in each of next 2 sc, sc in each of next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc. Ch 1, turn.
Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Sc in each of next 5 sc, 2 sc in each of next 4 sc, sc in each of next 5 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Same as 5th row.
Sc in each sc across. Do not break off, but sl st in end st of each row around 2 sides of piece. Fasten and break off, leaving a 6-inch length of thread with which to fasten petal to center.
Arrange 3 petals around center, as in illustration, and sew in place.
Leaves
With White, ch 20, skip 1 ch, sc in next ch, half dc in next ch, dc in next ch, tr in each of next 13 ch, dc in next ch, half dc in next ch, 3 sc in last ch, half dc in 1st st on other side of foundation chain, dc in next st, tr in each of next 13 sts, dc in next st, half dc in next st, sl st in last st. Fasten and break off. (Make 3).
Cut wire into three 5-inch lengths, and cover by winding White thread closely around wire, being sure to fasten ends securely. Fasten a leaf to each wire by sewing wire to wrong side of leaf, from point to point. Arrange leaves and fasten flowers to stems as in illustration.
