Cotillion Shawl Pattern

Semi-circular Stole. This stole can be made with any of the following: "DAWN" or "CLOVERLEAF" NYLON or "DAWN" DACRON FINGERING YARN or "DAWN" NYLON SOCK & SWEATER YARN or "DAWN" BRAEBURN SPORT YARN. 6 ozs. White or color desired. 2 ozs. Black.

Plastic crochet hook Size G. GAUGE: 4 sc = 1 inch. Each puff st row measures 1½ inch.

With White ch 9 very loosely, yarn over, insert hook in 7th st from hook, pull loop up 1½ inch, yarn over, insert hook in same space, pull loop up 1½ inch, yarn over, pull loop through 4 loops on hook, yarn over and pull loop through remaining 2 loops on hook (puff st), * yarn over, insert hook in same ch, pull loop up 1½ inch, repeat from * once, yarn over, pull through 4 loops, yarn over and pull through 2 loops (another puff st made), repeat from 1st * twice, work 4 more puff sts in each of the next 2 sts of ch (12 puff sts), ch 1, turn.

2nd Row. 1 sc in 1st puff st, 2 sc in next puff st (an increase), * 1 sc in next puff st, 2 sc in next puff st, repeat from * 4 times, turn.

3rd Row. Ch 6, work 1 puff st in each sc, increasing 8 puff sts evenly spaced (to increase, work 2 puff sts in same sc), turn (26 puff sts).

4th Row. Ch 1, sc in each puff st increasing 6 sc evenly spaced across row (32 sc), turn.

Repeat 3rd and 4th rows increasing 8 puff sts in each puff st row and 6 sc in each sc row until 16 puff st rows are completed.

Next Row. 1 sc in each puff st, cut yarn.

FRINGE: Wind Black over a 5½ inch cardboard, cut one end. Using 8 strands, double in half and loop through every other sc around lower edge of stole, draw ends through tightly, trim evenly.
