Vintage crib cover made from popcorn-stitch squares sewn together and finished with a shell-stitch border.

Gauge
Each square should measure 3 1/2 by 3 1/2 in.

Square

Foundation

Ch 4. Join with a sl st to form a ring. Ch 3.

Row 1

Row 1-Work 2 dc in ring: ch 2, 3 dc in ring; repeat from * twice, ending with ch 2, slip st into top of ch 3. Ch 3.

Row 2

Row 2-Work 4 dc in first dc of row below, remove hook from loop and insert it into the first st of the group of 4 dc, draw loop through the st, ch 1 (popcorn st), 1 dc in next st, 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc over the next ch 2; 1 dc in next st, 1 popcorn st in next st, 1 dc in next st; 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc over next ch 2; repeat from * twice, ending with a sl st into the top of the ch 3 at beginning of row. Ch 3.

Row 3

Row 3-Work 3 dc into the top of the ch 3 of row below, complete as for popcorn st, 1 dc into the top of popcorn st of row below, 1 popcorn st in next st, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts; 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc over the ch 2; 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 1 popcorn st in next st, 1 dc into top of next popcorn st, 1 popcorn st in next st, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts; repeat from * twice, ending with 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc over last ch 2, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts. Join with a sl st into the top of the ch 3 at beginning of row. Ch 1.

Square edging

Work 1 row of sc around entire square, working 11 sts on each side and 3 sc in each corner st. Make 80 squares and sew them tog. having 8 squares across and 10 squares in length.

Border

Border

Border: Work shell sts around entire cover as follows: Join yarn at any corner, skip 1 st, work 5 dc in next st, skip 1 st, 1 sc in next st; repeat from * for 1 row. Fasten off.
