Crocheted Bowl Hanging Planter Pattern #865

The * is used in repeating - 'repeat from *' - means to repeat everything that follows the last *. Parentheses () are used to repeat everything inside the () a given number of times or to explain a stitch.

Chain = ch; Stitch = st; Slip Stitch = sl st; Single Crochet = sc; Double Crochet = dc.

This pattern contains directions for two crocheted planter-hangers worked with either a single strand of Double Quick (8-Cord) Cotton or a double strand of Bedspread Cotton.

Article: Plant Holder - JAR; Plant Holder - BOWL. Material: Double Quick in (115 yd.) skeins, or Bedspread Cotton in (500 yd.) skeins. Quantity: 1 skein Double Quick, or 1 skein Bedspread Cotton. Crochet Hook: American: E Aluminum or No. 4 Plastic, or English: No. 9. Original Holders made of Lily Double Quick (8-Cord) Cotton.

A bowl approximately 5½ inches in diameter and 2½ inches in height is required for Bowl Plant Holder. NOTE: If making both bowl planters - two bowls will be required; also an extra skein of Double Quick or Bedspread Cotton required.

NOTE: If making both bowl holders - the bowl holders are the same - one hanging chain is shorter than the other. MAKE 2 IF BOTH HOLDERS ARE DESIRED -

Starting at bottom of holder, with a single strand of Double Quick or a double strand of Bedspread Cotton ch 3, join with a sl st to form a ring, ch 1, work 8 sc into ring, join with a sl st in first sc.

Do not turn in this or following rounds, ch 1, 2 sc in same st as last sl st, 2 sc in each remaining sc around, join with a sl st in first sc. There are 16 sc in last round.

Ch 1, 1 sc in same st as last sl st, * 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc; repeat from * around, end with 2 sc in last sc, join with a sl st in first sc. There are 24 sc in last round.

Ch 1, 1 sc in same st as last sl st, 1 sc in each remaining sc around, join with a sl st in first sc.

Ch 1, 1 sc in same st as last sl st, 1 sc in next sc, * 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 2 sc; repeat from * around, end with 2 sc in last sc, join with a sl st in first sc. There are 32 sc in round.

Ch 1, 1 sc in same st as last sl st, 1 sc in each of next 2 sc, * 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 3 sc; repeat from * around, end with 2 sc in last sc, join with a sl st in first sc. There are 40 sc in round.

Ch 1, 1 sc in same st as last sl st, 1 sc in each of next 3 sc, * 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 4 sc; repeat from * around, end with 2 sc in last sc, join with a sl st in first sc. There are 48 sc in round.

Repeat 4th round.

Ch 1, 1 sc in same st as last sl st, 1 sc in each of next 4 sc, * 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 5 sc; repeat from * around, end with 2 sc in last sc, join with a sl st in first sc. There are 56 sc in last round.

Repeat 4th round twice.

Ch 3, skip same st as last sl st, 1 dc in each of next 6 sc, * ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 7 sc; repeat from * 6 times, end with ch 3, join with a sl st in top st of ch 3 at beginning of round. There are 8 (7-dc groups - counting ch 3 at beginning of round as 1 dc) with ch 3 between groups in the last round.

Ch 1, 1 sc in same st as last sl st, * ch 8, skip next ch loop, next sc and next ch loop, 1 sc in next 3-joined dc; repeat from * around, end with ch 8, join with a sl st in first sc. There are 8 (ch-8 loops) with 1 sc between ch loops in last round.

Ch 1, 1 sc in same st as last sl st, * work 7 sc in next ch loop, 1 sc in next sc; repeat from * around but end last repeat with 7 sc in last ch loop, join with a sl st in first sc. There are 64 sc in last round.

For shorter holder ch 60; for longer holder ch 70 - for hanging cords - work a sl st in 2nd st from hook and in each remaining st of ch, work a sl st in each of next 16 sc of last round of holder - for shorter holder ch 60; for longer holder ch 70 - for 2nd hanging cord, work a sl st in 2nd st from hook and in each remaining st of ch; break off.

Using a darning needle and matching color thread, crossing hanging cords as Illustrated, sew free end of each cord to opposite side edge of holder. Place on a small wooden rod as Illustrated.
