Crocheted Carriage Cover Pattern
Vintage carriage cover in white and color with star-stitch rows and scalloped shell border.
Materials
- Bone Crochet Hook · #5 or 6
Pattern instructions
Body
With White, ch 123, 1 sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in each remaining st, ch 1, turn and work 2 more rows of sc.
4th Row. Attach color and work 1 sc in each of the 1st 2 sts, yarn over, pick up the next st of 2nd row of white, yarn over, pull up the length of a dc, yarn over, pick up the next st of 1st row of white, yarn over and pull up the same length, yarn over, pick up the next st of 2nd row of white, yarn over and pull up the same length having 7 loops on needle, yarn over and pull through all loops on needle, ch 1, skip 1 sc, sc in each of the next 5 sc and repeat from * across row working 5 sc at end of row.
5th Row. Attach white and work 1 sc in each sc skipping the ch st of each star st of previous row (122 sts). 6th & 7th Rows. 1 sc in each sc.
8th Row. Attach Color and work 1 sc in each of the 1st 5 sc then follow star st pattern of 4th row placing the star stitches between the star stitches of 4th row. 9th Row. Attach White and repeat 5th and 6th and 7th rows. Continue in same manner until work measures about 30 inches ending with 3 rows of White.
Border
BORDER. Join Color in corner st of ch 3, 2 dc in same space, skip 2 sts, sl st in next st, ch 3, 2 dc in same space, and repeat from * around cover skipping the length of a dc at sides (be sure scallop lays flat) ch 3 and turn.
2nd Row. Ch 3, 2 dc in same space, sl st in ch 3 of next shell in previous row, ch 3, 2 dc in same space, repeat from * all around, ch 3 and turn. 3rd, 4th, 5th Rows. Work same as 2nd row increasing 1 shell in each corner.
This cover may be made in "Dawn" Shetland Floss. If a real heavy cover is desired use "Dawn" Germantown Wool.
