Crocheted Plant Holder and Bowl Cover Pattern #834

This pattern contains directions for crocheting a Hanging Plant Holder and a Bowl Cover worked with two strands (held together) of Mercerized Bedspread Cotton.

With two strands of thread (held together) ch 4, join with a sl st in first st of chain to form a ring, ch 3, work 15 dc into ring, join with a sl st in top st of ch 3. There are 16 dc in ring (counting ch 3 as 1 dc). Note: Ch 3 is always counted as 1 dc.

Do not turn in this or following rounds, working with two strands of thread and in back loop of sts (unless otherwise mentioned) ch 3, 1 dc in same space as last sl st, work 2 dc in each dc around, join with a sl st in top st of ch 3 at beginning of round. (32 dc in round)

Ch 3, 1 dc in same space as last sl st, 1 dc in next dc, * 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next dc; repeat from * around, join with a sl st in top st of ch 3. (48 dc in round)

Ch 3, skip same st as last sl st, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, * ch 1, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc; repeat from * around, end with ch 1, join with a sl st in top st of ch 3.

With right side facing and having last popcorn round towards you, join two strands of thread with a sl st in free loop of first sc of 14th round, ch 5, work 11 dtr (3 times over hook for a dtr) over same free loop as joining sl st, working over free loop of sts of 14th sc round * skip next 4 sc, a sl st in next sc, skip next 3 sc, 12 dtr (scallop) all in next sc; repeat from * around, end with skip next 4 sc, a sl st in next sc, skip next 3 sc, join with a sl st in top st of ch 5; cut thread. There are 12 scallops in round.

With right side of scallop round facing you, skip chain loops of next mesh round below scallops, join two strands of thread with a sl st over chain loop of mesh at center of any scallop of next mesh round, * skip chain loop of next mesh, a 12 dtr scallop over chain loop of next mesh, skip chain loop of next mesh, a sl st over chain loop of next mesh; repeat from * around, end with skip chain loop of next mesh, a 12 dtr scallop over chain loop of next mesh, skip chain loop of next mesh, join with a sl st in first sl st; cut thread. There are 12 scallops in round.

Repeat 2nd scallop round twice but work 10 dtr in each scallop of each round instead of 12 dtr scallops. There are 12 (10 dtr) scallops in each round.

With right side facing and last scallop round towards you, skip chain loops of next mesh round, join two strands of thread with a sl st in ch-1 space before any 2-dc group of 5th round, working all shells of 8 dtr, * skip next 2 dc, a shell of 8 dtr in next ch-1 space, skip next ch-1 space, a sl st between next 2 dc, skip next ch-1 space, a shell in next ch-1 space, skip next 2 dc, a sl st in next ch-1 space, skip next ch-1 space, a shell between next 2 dc, skip next ch-1 space, a sl st in next ch-1 space; repeat from * around ending last repeat with a shell between last 2 dc, skip last ch-1 space, a sl st in first sl st; cut thread. With right side facing, skip next dc round, join two strands of thread with a sl st in free loop of any dc between two scallops on first dc round, * working in free loop of sts, skip next dc, a 5 dtr scallop in next dc, skip next dc, a sl st in next dc; repeat from * around, end with skip next dc, a 5 dtr scallop in next dc, skip next dc, join with a sl st in first sl st; cut thread. There are 4 (5 dtr) scallops in last round.

WORK plant holder same as Bowl Cover.

With two strands of thread chain 111, work a sl st in 2nd st from hook and in each remaining st of chain; cut thread.

Using a darning needle and matching color thread, sew one end of one cord in sc between any two popcorn sts of last round; sew 2nd end of same cord in sc between popcorn sts at opposite end. Sew one end of 2nd cord in sc at center of one side of first cord - bringing cord over first cord, sew opposite end of 2nd cord to center sc at opposite end.
