Crocheted Stole Pattern #2

MATERIALS REQUIRED: Art. 402 Lily NYLKARA Knitting Yarn 12-balls No. 25 Med. Blue and 1-ball No. 23 Baby Blue. No. 3 bone or plastic crochet hook. Size—17 x 68 inches without fringe. GAUGE—5 cross stitch patterns—2½ inches. 2 rows—½ inch.

With Med. Blue, make a chain 21 inches long. ROW 1—Sk 1 ch, sc in next 119 ch. Cut and rip excess ch.

ROW 2—Ch 4, turn, sk 2 sc, dc in next 2 sc, sk these 2 dc and make a slanting dc back in previous sc. * Sk next sc, dc in next 2 sc, sk these 2 dc and make a slanting dc back in skipped sc. Repeat from * across (39 patterns). Dc in end sc.

ROW 3—Ch 4, turn, sk 2 dc, dc in next 2 dc, sk these 2 dc and make a slanting dc back in previous dc. * Sk next dc, dc in next 2 dc, sk these 2 dc and make a slanting dc back in skipped dc. Repeat from * across. Dc in end ch-4.

Repeat Row 3 thru Row 13 (an even number of cross stitch rows), being careful not to drop or add sts. Each pattern should be exactly above pattern in previous row. Fasten off Med. Blue.

Turn, join Baby Blue and make 2 rows. Fasten off. Turn, join Med. Blue and make 4 rows. Fasten off. Continue with two rows Baby Blue, 4 rows Med. Blue and 2 rows Baby Blue (3 light stripes), (above 8½ inches from start), then make an even number of rows with Med. Blue for center section about 50 inches long. Then repeat stripes and finish with 12 rows of Med. Blue. End with 2 rows of sc. Fasten off. Work a row of sc across starting end.

FRINGE—Wind Med. Blue 6 times around an 8 inch card. Cut at one edge. Tie these 6 strands into 1st sc on one end:—With ends of 6-strand group even, insert a large crochet hook up from underneath thru sc, pull lp of strands thru to back, pass ends thru lp and pull tight. Repeat in every 5th sc across end. Tie a 2d row of knots ½ inch below 1st row by taking 6 strands each from 2 adjoining tufts. Tie a 3d row of knots ½ inch below 2d row in same way. Repeat fringe on other end. Block Stole to desired size.
