Stuffed crochet pig toys in five sizes with body, pants, arms, feet, head pieces, snout, ears, and tail. Color distribution given for 9½" pig.

  • Steel crochet hook · No. 3 or 4 (12½" pig, double thread)
  • Bone crochet hook · No. 5 (15" pig, single yarn)

Pattern instructions

Materials

9½" pig

9½" PIG. "SILLATEEN SANSIL". 60 yd. Balls. 4 Balls Pink, 3 Balls each of Red and Green. Steel Crochet Hook No. 8. Work with double thread.

12½" pig

12½" PIG. "STAR" PEARL COTTON size 5. 60 yd. Balls. 4 Balls each of Yellow, Blue and Cream, 1 Ball Red. Steel Crochet Hook No. 3 or 4. Work with double thread.

15" pig

15½" PIG. "DAWN" KNITTING WORSTED. 1½-oz. Skeins. 2 Skeins each of Orange, Green and White, 10 yds. Red for snout. Bone Crochet Hook No. 5. The sweater of this Pig is worked in Orange stripes arranged as desired. Work in single yarn.

17" pig

17" PIG. "DAWN" WORSTED FLOSS. 1 oz. Balls. 3 Balls each of Red, Green and Pink. Bone Crochet Hook No. 6. Work with double yarn.

21" pig

21" PIG. "STAR" COTTON YARN. 100 yd. Skeins. 2 Skeins each of Cream, Yellow and Brown, 10 yds. Red for Snout and Mouth. Bone Crochet Hook No. 6. Work with Single Yarn. Color distribution is given for 9½" Pig. Other sizes use Cream, White or Pink for head, ears, hands, feet and tail and distribute other colors as desired.

Trim Pigs with buttons as illustrated or desired.

Body

Starting row

BODY. With Green, ch 23, and work 22 sc on ch. Ch 1 to turn each row.

2nd Row

2nd Row—1 sc in each sc.

3rd Row

3rd Row—2 sc in first and last sc, 1 sc in each remaining sc. Work next 6 rows same as 3rd row.

Next 16 Rows

Next 16 Rows—1 sc in each sc, break thread.

Start Pants

Starting row

START PANTS. Working in back loop of st only, join Red and work 1 row of sc even.

2nd Row

2nd Row—Working in both loops, 2 sc in first sc, 1 sc in each remaining sc.

Next 3 Rows

Next 3 Rows—Work same as 2nd row, then work 8 rows even.

14th, 15th, 16th, 17th Rows

14th, 15th, 16th, 17th Rows—Decrease 1 sc at beginning of each row, and work 3 rows even.

21st Row

21st Row—Start Leg—1 sc in each of the first 17 sc, ch 1, turn.

22nd Row

22nd Row—1 sc in each sc.

23rd Row

23rd Row—Decrease 1 sc at beginning of row.

24th Row

24th Row—1 sc in each sc. Repeat the 23rd and 24th rows 3 times.

31st, 32nd, 33rd Rows

31st, 32nd, 33rd Rows—Decrease 1 sc at beginning of each row and work 1 row even, break thread.

Second leg

Join thread in 17th st from opposite side, leaving 2 sc in center free and work another leg in the same manner reversing decreases.

Arms

Starting row

ARMS. Join Green in 9th row from top, work 1 sc in same space with joining, 1 sc in each of the next 9 rows, ch 1, turn, work 1 row even.

3rd Row

3rd Row—Decrease 1 sc at beginning of row and increase 1 sc at end of row.

4th Row

4th Row—1 sc in each sc. Repeat 3rd and 4th rows 5 times, break thread.

Pink rows

Join Pink, decrease 1 st at beginning of row. Next Row—Decrease 1 st at beginning of row and work 3 rows even.

Hand

Next Row—Start hand, 1 sc in each of the first 5 sc, ch 1, turn and work 1 row even.

Next 2 Rows

Next 2 Rows—Decrease 1 sc at beginning of each row, break thread.

Thumb

Starting row

THUMB. Work 1 sc in each of the 3 free sc on opposite side, ch, turn.

Next Row

Next Row—1 sc in each sc.

Next 2 Rows

Next 2 Rows—Decrease 1 sc at beginning of each row, break thread. Work another arm on opposite side. Work another section in same manner.

Foot

Starting row

FOOT. With Pink, ch 11, 3 sc in 2nd st from hook (heel) 1 sc in each of the next 8 sts 3 sc in last st, (toe) working on opposite side of ch, 1 sc in each of the next 8 sts, without joining rows, work 1 sc in next sc, 3 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of the next 10 sc, 3 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of the next 10 sc, then work 2 rows of sc even.

Next 2 Rows

Next 2 Rows—1 sc in each sc decreasing 3 sts at toe in each row, then work 1 row even, break thread.

Red row

Attach Red and work 1 row even, break thread. Work another foot in same manner.

Side Of Head

Starting row

SIDE OF HEAD. With Pink, ch 7, 1 sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in each of the next 5 sts of ch, ch 1 to turn each row. Work 1 row even.

3rd Row

3rd Row—Work 1 sc in each sc increasing 1 sc in first and last sc.

4th Row

4th Row—1 sc in each sc working 2 sc in last sc.

5th Row

5th Row—2 sc in first sc, 1 sc in each remaining sc. Repeat 4th and 5th rows 8 times. (The increased side is for under part of head.)

22nd Row

22nd Row—1 sc in each sc.

23rd Row

23rd Row—Decrease 1 st at beginning of row. Repeat 22nd and 23rd rows 3 times, work 1 row even, break thread and work another side piece in same manner.

Back Head Piece

Starting row

BACK HEAD PIECE. With Pink, ch 2, 1 sc in 2nd st from hook, ch 1 to turn each row.

2nd Row

2nd Row—2 sc in sc.

3rd Row

3rd Row—2 sc in first sc, 1 sc in remaining sc. Repeat 3rd row 11 times. Work 28 rows even, break thread.

Under Head Piece

Starting row

UNDER HEAD PIECE. Ch 10, 1 sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in each remaining st of ch, ch 1, turn.

2nd Row

2nd Row—2 sc in first sc, 1 sc in each remaining sc. Work next 4 rows the same as second row, then work 8 rows even.

Next 11 Rows

Next 11 Rows—Decrease 1 sc at beginning of each row, break thread.

Snout

Starting row

SNOUT. With Red, ch 2, 6 sc in second st from hook, do not join row.

2nd Row

2nd Row—2 sc in each sc. (12 sc). Ch 1, turn.

3rd Row

3rd Row—* 1 sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc, repeat from * to end of row, ch 1, turn and work 2 rows on the 18 sc, break thread.

Ears

Starting row

EARS. With Pink, ch 12 and work 11 sc on ch, work next 3 rows even.

Decrease rows

Decrease 1 sc at the beginning of each row until 1 st remains, break thread.

Tail

Tail

TAIL. With Pink, ch 6, join to form a ring, ch 1 and work 1 sc in each st, without joining rows and working in back loop of st only, work 1 sc in each sc, continue working in same manner until tail is desired length. Leave a length of thread long enough to pull through tail, break thread.

To Assemble Pig

To assemble pig

TO ASSEMBLE PIG. Sew side head piece to back head piece beginning at narrow ends (snout) fitting in side head piece so that neck edges are even. Sew other side head piece in same manner. Sew under head to side head pieces joining narrow end to neck edge. Sew snout in position. Sew body sections together leaving leg and neck edges also the side of body open for filling. Sew head to body. Cut cardboard inner sole to fit bottom of foot. Sew feet to legs and stuff body. Sew openings and sew eyes in position.
