Party Stealers Refreshment Set Pattern #1

(Sufficient for a large Set of Coasters).—1-ball makes 2 Small Coasters or 1 Large Coaster.

SMALL COASTER—(Size—5½")—Base—In Baby Pink, ch 8, sl st in 1st st. Ch 3, 17 dc in ring, sl st in top of ch-3. Work all rows in back lps only.

Ch 3, 2 dc in same st, (2 dc in next dc, 3 dc in next) repeated around. Join.

Ch 3, dc in same st, (dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc) repeated around. (This is a widening in every 3d st). Join.

Ch 3, dc in same st, (dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc) repeated around. (This is a widening in every 4th st). Join.

Widen in every 3d st.

Widen in every 5th st.

Widen in every 10th st.

Widen in every 11th st.

Widen in every 6th st.

Widen in every 7th st.

Widen in every 12th st (208 dc in row).

(Ch 6, sk 3 dc, sc in next dc) repeated around. Make ch 3 and dc for final lp.

(Ch 7, sc in next lp) repeated around. Make ch 4 and dc for final lp.

(Ch 8, sc in next lp) repeated around. Fasten off.

Working into remaining front lps on outer edge of Row 7, join, ch 3, dc in each st around. Join to top of ch-3.

Ch 3, dc in each dc around and join.

Repeat Rows 8 and 9, then make one row even without widenings. Fasten off.

Cut a thick strip of cotton about 2" wide. Slip under rim all around. Skip one row of lps (Row 8) on Base, and sew edge of Rim down over cotton pad to lps on outer edge of Row 9 of Base.

Make one Ranunculus each in Lavender and Beauty Pink as for No. 5-Vanity Set. Sew on Rim 2½" apart.

Make a Hollyhock flower (as for No. 12 "Hollyhock Garden" Place Mat) in Shd. Pinks, and a 2d with Base in Beauty Pink and Petals in Beauty Rose. Tack tog. on Rim midway between Ranunculus.

In Hunter Green, * ch 15, sl st in 13th ch from hook, (ch 13, sl st) twice in same st. Repeat from * 4 times. Fasten off. Make 2 and tack on Rim between flowers.

Wet back of Base with hot, thick starch. Stretch and pin down each lp around edge until dry. Repeat Coaster with Bases in Lt. Yellow, Baby Blue, etc.

LARGE COASTER—(Size—8")—In Nile Green, repeat Base thru Row 11.

Widen in every 8th st.

Widen in every 13th st.

Work even.

Widen in every 9th st.

Widen in every 10th st.

Repeat Row 14.

Widen in every 11th st. Repeat Edge.

Working into remaining front lps on outer edge of Row 14, repeat Rows 1 and 2 of Rim. then repeat Rows 15 and 16, then make one row even. Sew down over cotton padding onto outer edge of Row 16 of Base.

Make 2 Sets of Flowers and sew tog. around Rim. Starch back of Base.
