M ATERIALS: J. & P. COATS or CLARK'S O.N.T. BEST SIX CORD MERCERIZED CROCHET, Size 50. Small Ball: J. & P. Coats—11 balls, or Clark's O.N.T.—16 balls. Steel Crochet Hook No. 12. The above amount of material is sufficient to make 4 place mats, each 11x 16zinches, and arunner, 11 x 22 inches.

PLACE MAT (Make 4)—Motif .. Ch 8. Join with sl st to formring.

Ist rnd: Ch6(to count as trand ch ]), (trin ring, ch1)15 times, sl stin 5th st of starting ch-6 (16 sps).

2nd rnd: Chl, scinsame place as sl st, *2scinnext sp, scin next tr. Repeat from * around, si stin Ist sc (48 sc).

3rd rnd: Ch 3(to count as 1 dc), dcin next sc, * ch 2, skip next sc, dc innext 2 sc. Repeat from * around, joining last ch-2 with sl stin 3rd st of starting ch-3.

4th rnd: SI st between the ch-3 and dc, ch6, dcinsame place as last sl st, * skip next sp, between next 2 dc make dc, ch 3 and dc. Repeat from * around. Join.

5th rnd: Chl, sc insame place as last sl st, * 3scinnext ch-3 sp, sc between next 2 dc. Repeat from * around. Join(64 sc).

6thrnd: Ch 7, skip 3 sc, scin next sc, ch4, skip 3 sc, scin next sc, * ch4, skip 3 sc, in next sc make dc, ch 4 and dtr; skip 3 sc, innext sc make d ttr, ch 4 and dc, (ch 4, skip 3 sc, sc innext sc) twice. 13th rnd: * Make (1lacet, | bar) 4 times; turn corner as before, (1 bar, llacet) twice; 1 bar. Repeat from * around. Join.

14th and 15th rnds: Make bar over lacet and lacet over bar, work corners same as on IIth and 12th rnds.

16th rnd: * Make (1 bar, llacet) 5 times; turn corner as before, (llacet, | bar) 3 times; llacet. Repeat from * around. Join.

17th rnd: Make lacet over bar and bar over lacet, work corners same as on llthrnd.

18th rnd: Ch 7, dcinnext dc, (ch 4, dc innext dc) 9 times; * turn corner as on 12th rnd, (ch 4, dc in next dc) 17 times. Repeat from * around. Join and break off. Make 5 more motifs. Sew 2 x 3 motifs together with neat over-and-over stitches.

EDGING... Ist rnd: Attach thread inacornersp, chl,5sc insp, sc in each dc, (3 sc innext sp, sc innext dc) 17 times;

sc ineachdc, 2 sc in corner sp, sc injoining of motifs, 2 sc innext corner sp. Continue thus around. Join.

2nd rnd: S| stinnext 2 sc, ch6, insame place as sl st make (dc, ch 3) twice and dc; * skip 3 sc, innext sc make dc, ch3 anddc. Repeat from * across to next corner of mat, in corner sc make (dc, ch 3) 3 times and dc. Continue thus around. Join.

3rd rnd: Ch6é, dcinsame place as sl st, (dc, ch3 and dc in next dc) twice; * skip ch 3 and1dc, innext dc make dc, ch 3 and dc. Repeat from * across to next corner. Work corner as before. Continue thus around. Join.

4th rnd: Chl, scinsame place as s| st, 4scin each sp around. Join.

RUNNER... Make 8 motifs. Sew 2 x 4 motifs together. Finish with Edging same as Edging on Place Mats.

Starch lightly. Pin out to measurements given and press.
