Portrait Buffet Scarf Pattern #7

M ATERIALS—Lily MERCROCHET COTTON size 20: —4-balls White and 1-ball Shd. Pinks (DAISY Mercerized Crochet Cotton size 20 may be substituted for MERCROCHET); Lily Tatting Cotton:—Partial ball Pink; Lily Six Strand Floss:—6-sks. Deep Rose, 5-sks. Lt. Steel Blue and 1-sk. each Med. Green and Yellow. Crochet hooks Nos. 5, 12 and 14.

Size—15" x 34"

SCARF—With White and No. 12 hook make a chain 18" long, trin 18th ch from hook, (ch 5, sk 5 ch, trin next ch) 41 times (42 sps in row). Cut and rip excess ch.

ROW 2—Ch 11, turn, sk Ist sp, trin next tr, (ch 5, trin next tr) repeated across to 6th ch of end sp. Repeat Row 2 thru Row 6,

ROW 7—Ch 11, turn, sk Ist sp, trin next tr, 1] more sps, (5 tr in next sp, trin tr) 18 times (18 blks), 12 sos to end.

ROW 8— Ch 11, turn, sk Ist sp, trin next tr, 1O more sps, | blk, (ch 1, sk | tr, trin next tr) 54 times (54 small sps), 1 blk, 1] sos.

ROW 9 —Ch ll, turn, sk Ist sp, trin next tr, 9 sps, 1 blk, (ch 1, sk 1 tr, tr in next tr) 3 times, (ch 1, trin next tr) 54 times, (ch 1, sk 1tr, tr in next tr) 3 times, 1 blk, 1O sps. Continue in same way, following Chart. In Row 24, make 1 trin each small sp, trin each tr. Follow Chart thru Row 55, reverse Chart and work from Row 54 out to Row 1. If alonger scarf is desired, increase length of center section.

Edge—Ch 1, turn, 2sc in last tr, (5 sc in next sp, sc in tr) repeated around with 3 sc incenter st at each corner. End with 1 sc in Ist corner, sl st in back Ip of Ist sc.

ROW 2—Ch 3, dc insame st, (ch 5, sc in 5th ch from hook forap, ch1, 2 dcinsame corner st) twice, * 2 dcinbacklp of center sc innext sp, ch5,p, ch], 2 dcinsame sc. Repeat from * around with each corner like Ist one. Join and fasten off.

SKIRT—Starting at top with Shd. Pinks, ch10, sc in 2d ch from hook, sc ineach ch across.

ROW 2—Ch5, turn, tr and 2 dc in back Ip of Ist sc, dc in back lps of next 7 dc, 2 dc and 2trin back lp of end sc.

ROW 3—Ch 3, turn and picking up both Ips again, 2 dc in Ist st, dc in each st across with 3 dc in end ch. Repeat Row 3 twice.

ROW 6— Ch 3, turn, and picking up back Ips only, make dc in each dc across with 2 dc inend ch.

ROW 7—Repeat Row 6 picking up both lps again.

ROW 8—Ch 5, turn, trineach st across with 2 increases. (To increase make 2 trin 1 tr). 2 tr inend ch.

ROW 9—Repeat Row 8 but make 3 incs.

ROW 10—Picking up back Ips only repeat Row 8.

ROW 11— Picking up both Ips again, repeat Row 8 with 3incs.

Repeat Rows 8 and 9.

ROW 14—Ch 5, turn and picking up back Ips only, make trin each tr across, trinend ch.

ROW 15—Ch 5, turn, trin both lps of each tr across, trinend ch. Repeat Row 15 twice. Fasten off.

Ist Ruffle—Join Shd. Pinks to front lp of Ist sc in Row], ch 6,2trinsame sc, ch], 2 trin front lp of next sc, *(ch1,2dc innext sc) 5 times, (ch 1, 2 trin next sc) twice, ch], trin same endsc.

ROW 2—Ch 6, turn, 2 trin Ist ch-1 sp, (ch 1, 2 trin next sp) repeated across to endch-6, ch], trinsame ch.

ROW 3—Ch/, turn, 2 trin Ist ch-1 sp, (ch 2, 2 trinnext sp) repeated across to end ch, ch 2, trinsame ch.

ROW 4 —Ch6, turn, 2scin lst sp, (ch 4, 2 scinnext sp) repeated across to end ch-7. Fasten off.

ROW 5—Turn, sI st in White in lst sc, (ch 4, 2scinnext sp) repeated across to end ch-6. Fasten off.

2d Ruffle—Join Shd. Pinks to front lp of Ist do in Row 5, ch 6,2 trinsame dc, working in front los across row, ch], 2 tr innext dc, (ch1, sk1dc, 2 trin next) 12 times, ch], trinsame end st. Repeat Rows 2 thru 5 of Ist Ruffle.

3d Ruffle—Join Shd. Pinks to front lp of Ist trin Row 9, * ch 8, 2 dtrinin same tr, working in front lps across rowchl, 2 dtrin next tr, *(ch1, sk1tr, 2 dtrin next st) 18 times, ch], (2 dtr, ch, dtr) inend st. Repeat Rows 2 thru 5 of Ist Ruffle.

4th Ruffle—Join Shd. Pinks to front Ip of Ist trin Row 13. Repeat 3d Ruffle from * to *. (Ch 1, sk I tr, 2 dtrin next tr) 28 times, ch1, dtrin same end st. Repeat Row 2 thru 5 of Ist Ruffle.

BODICE—Join Shd. Pinks to Ist st at top of Skirt, ch 3, dc insame st, dcinnext 7 sts, 2 dcinend st.

ROW 2—Ch 3, turn, dc inlO dc, 3dcinend ch-3.

ROW 3—Ch 3, turn, dc ineach dc across, dc in end ch-3.

ROW 4—Ch 3, turn, dc in Ist 11 dc, holding back the last lp of each dc on hook make dc in 3 end dc, thread over and draw thru all lps (Cluster made).

ROW 5—Chl, turn, sk Cluster, sc innext 4 dc, hdcin 3 dc, dcin2 dc, (dc in next 2 dc) made into a Cluster.

Collar—Ch 1, turn and picking up back Ips only, sc in Cluster, ch 5, scinsame st, (ch 5, sc innext dc) 9 times.

ROW 2—Ch5, turn, sc in Ist Ip, (ch 4, sc in next |p) 9 times.

ROW 3—Ch6, turn, sc in Ist Ip, (ch 4, sc in next Ip) 8 times. Fasten off.

ROW 4—With White sc in Ist lp of last row, (ch 4, sc innext |p) 10 times around to corner of Bodice. Fasten off. Turn Collar down over Bodice.

BONNET—With Shd. Pinks ch17, sk 6 ch, (trin next 2 ch) made into a Cluster, (dc in next 2 ch) made into a Cluster, hdc in 4ch,scin3 ch.

ROW 2—Ch 3, turn, dcin9 sts across.

ROW 3—Chl, turn, scin9 sts. Repeat for Row 4.

ROW 5—Ch 12, turn, (sc, ch 10, sc) in Ist sc, ch 8, (sc ch8, sc) innext sc, ch7,sk1sc,scinnextsc,ché6,sk1sc,scin next sc,ch5,sk1sc,scinnext sc, chl, dc innext (end) sc.

ROW 6—Ch 3, turn, sc in next Ip, (ch 3, sc in next Ip) twice, (ch 4, sc in next Ip) twice, ch 5, sc in next Ip, ch 6, sc in next lp.

ROW 7—Ch 10, turn, sc in Ist lp, ch 6, sc innext Ip, (ch 5, sc in next lp) twice, ch 4, sc in next lp, ch 3, sc in next, dc in end lp.

ROW 8—Chl, turn, scinIstlp, ch 3, sc in next Ip, (ch 4, sc innext Ip) twice, ch 5, sc innext lp, ch 3, dc in next lp, ch 2, (dc, ch 2, tr)insame lp, ch7, slstinsame lp. Fasten off.

FAN—With Shd. Pinks, ch 6, join with sI st foraring. Ch 5, 10 trin half of ring.

ROW 2—Ch 4, turn, sc in Ist tr, (ch 4, sc in next st) 10 times.

ROW 3—Ch 4, turn, sc in Ist Ip, (ch 4, sc in next lp) repeated across. Repeat Row 3 three times. Fasten off.

ARM—With Pink Tatting Cotton and No. 14 hook, ch 42, sc in2d ch from hook, hdc, 2 dc, 5hdce and 7 dc onch, (dc in next 4 ch made into a Cluster) twice, trin next 4 ch, dtrin each chto end.

ROW 2—Ch|, turn, sl st in each st to elbow. Fasten off. Sew large end under Collar. Sew hand over base of Fan.

NECK—With Pink Tatting Cotton ch 7, sc in 2d ch from hook, sc in each ch across.

ROW 2—Ch 3, turn, dc iné sc.

ROW 3—Chl, turn, sc in6 dc.

ROW 4—Ch 4, turn, 2 dc in Ist sc, dcinnext 4 sc, 2dcin2trinendsc.

ROW 5—Ch5, turn, 2 trand 2 dc in Ist tr, dc in next 10 sts. Fasten off. Sew under top of Bodice. Sew Bonnet over top of Neck.

FLOWER SPRAY —Leaf—Split Green Floss in half. With 3 threads and No. 12 hook, ch10, sI stin Oth ch from hook, ch10,slstinsame ch. Fasten off.

Flower—With 3 threads Blue, ch6é, sl stin 6th ch from hook, (ch 5, sl st in same st) 4 times. Fasten off. Make a 2d Flower in Deep Rose. Sew Flowers crosswise of Leaf. With Yellow Floss make a French Knot in center of each Flower. Make 10 Sprays Sew one Spray on Fan and one on top of Bonnet Brim. Gather up each Ruffle in 2 places and sew a Spray over gathers.

With 3 threads Blue, ch 50. Fasten off. Repeat in Rose. Twist 2 chs tog. and sew around Bonnet Crown. Sew ends into abow at back. Sew girlin center of panel at left end.

SMALL BOW KNOT—With Blue Six Strand Floss and No. 5 hook, ch15" long, sl st in 2d ch from hook, (ch 1, sl st in next ch) repeated to end, ch1, sl stin same end ch. Working on other side of ch, (ch 1, sl st in next ch) repeated to end. Fasten off. Twist Braid several times, form into a bow- knot and sew around top of end panel above girl as illustrated. Repeat with Rose Floss and sew at bottom of panel.

Repeat Girl and Bowknots for panel at other end. Before starting Bodice, turn Skirt wrong-side-up. Also reverse Arm, Neck and Bonnet.

LARGE BOW KNOT—With Rose Floss ch 37" long and repeat Braid. Form into a Bowknot and sew around top of center panel. Make a Small Bowknot in Blue and sew at bottom of center panel. Stretch and pin Scarf right-side- down in true shape ona large, padded board or table. Steam and press dry thrua cloth.
