Foundation

Starting at one end, ch4.

1st row

1st row: 4dcin4thch from hook. Ch 3, turn.

2nd row

2nd row: Dcin Ist dc (increase), dc in eachdcacross, 2d cin 3rd st of turning ch (another increase). Ch 3, turn.

Repeat 2nd row

Repeat 2nd row until there are 25d c in the row. Ch 3, turn.

12th row

12th row: Dc in eachdc across. Ch 3, turn.

Repeat 12th row

Repeat 12th row until piece measures 3 inches from point. Ch 5, turn.

Next row

Next row: * Skip 2dc,dcinnextd c,ch2. Repeat from * across (8 sps). Ch 5, turn.

Following row

Following row: Dcinnextdc,dcineach of next 2ch,dcinnextdc, dcineachof next2ch,dcinnextdc(2bls);:ch2,dcin next dc (1sp); make another sp, 2 bls, 1 sp. Ch 3, turn.

Chart

Hereafter follow chart, starting at 3rd row, and work until Cross is completed. Then continue making rows of dc as in beginning until piece measures 8 inches. Fasten off.

Join pieces

Make 2 more pieces same as this, but do not break off after last piece is made. Place all three pieces together and work arow of dc through the 3 thicknesses, thus joining pieces. Thendec.1dc at both ends of each row until 5 dc remain—to dec., work off 2d casldc. Fasten Off.

Tassels

TASSELS (Make 4)

TASSELS (Make 4)... Cut a cardboard 2 inches long and 4 inches wide. Cut 2 strands of thread, each 6 inches long, and place them across width of cardboard. Then wind 2 strands of thread around length of cardboard 125 times. Break off. Pick up both ends of the 6-inch strands, and tie securely, making 7 knots. Remove cardboard and cut loops at one end. Trim ends evenly. Then wind a thread around these strands at opposite end, Y% inch down from top, and tie securely. Sew a tassel at each point of bookmark.
