Rose Potholder Pattern

Top Section
TOP SECTION: With Red ch 4, join to form a ring, * ch 3, sc in ring, repeat from * 5 times (6 loops).
2nd Row. Sl st into loop, ch 1 and work 1 sc, 4 dc, 1 sc over each loop, join.
3rd Row. * Ch 5, sc in back of work between next 2 petals, repeat from * 5 times, break Red.
4th Row. Attach Green in loop and work 1 sc, 1 s dc, 5 dc, 1 s dc, 1 sc over each loop (s dc: yarn over hook, insert in space, pull through, yarn over and pull through all loops at one time), break Green.
5th Row. Attach White in 1st dc of any petal, sc in same space, * ch 2, skip 1 dc, sc in next dc, ch 2, s dc between petals, ch 2, sc in 1st dc of next petal, repeat from * all around ending row with ch 2, skip 1 dc, sc in next dc, ch 2, s dc between petals, ch 2, join in 1st sc.
6th Row. Sl st into loop, ch 2, 1 s dc, ch 2, 2 s dc in same loop, * 2 s dc, ch 2, 2 s dc (shell) in next loop, repeat from * all around, join.
7th Row. Sl st to center of shell, ch 2, 1 s dc, ch 2, 2 s dc in same space, * 2 s dc, ch 2, 2 s dc in center of next shell, repeat from * all around, join.
8th Row. Sl st to center of shell, ch 2, 1 s dc, ch 2, 2 s dc in same space, * ch 1, sc between shells, ch 1, 2 s dc, ch 2, 2 s dc in center of next shell, repeat from * all around ending row to correspond, break White.
9th Row. Attach Red in center of shell, ch 2, 1 s dc, ch 2, 2 s dc in same space, * ch 1, sc in next sc, ch 1, shell in center of next shell, repeat from * all around ending row to correspond, join, break yarn.
Under Section
UNDER SECTION: With White ch 2, 8 sc in 2nd st from hook, do not join or turn rows. Place a marker at beginning of each row.
2nd Row. 2 sc in each sc.
3rd Row. * 1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, repeat from * all around.
4th Row. Working in sc increase in every 3rd sc.
5th Row. 1 sc in each of the next 4 sc, ch 8 for thumb opening, skip 6 sc, 1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, then increase in every 4th sc for remainder of row.
6th Row. Increase in every 4th st working on ch in same manner.
7th and 8th Rows. Work even.
9th Row. Increase in every 5th sc.
10th Row. Work even.
11th Row. Increase in every 5th sc (72 sc), sl st in next 2 sc to even row.
12th Row. Ch 2, s dc in same space, ch 2, 2 s dc in same space, * ch 1, skip 1 sc, sc in next sc, ch 1, skip 1 sc, 2 s dc, ch 2, 2 s dc (shell) in next sc, repeat from * all around ending row with ch 1, skip 1 sc, sc in next sc, ch 1, join, break White.
13th Row. With Red work same as 9th row of top section, break yarn.
Thumb And Assembly
THUMB: With White, follow directions given for thumb on pattern page.
With Red crochet the 2 sections together working same as last row of top section, leaving 5 scallops free at lower edge for hand, but working that row on front and back section separately at opening.
With Red cover a bone ring in sc and sew to top of holder.
