TOP SECTION: With Red ch 25 (21), 2 sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in each of the next 4 (3) sts of ch, skip 2 sts of ch, 1 sc in each of the next 4 (3) sts, 2 sc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 sc in each of the next 4 (3) sts, skip 2 sts of ch, 1 sc in each of the next 4 (3) sts, 2 sc in last st, ch 1 to turn each row.

2nd Row

2nd Row. 1 sc in each sc.

3rd Row

3rd Row. Working in sc, increase 1 sc at beginning and 1 sc at end of row.

Rows 4–5

4th and 5th Rows. Work even.

6th Row

6th Row. Same as 3rd row.

7th Row

7th Row. Work even.

8th Row

8th Row. Increase 1 sc at beginning and end of row, then work 9 (4) rows even.

Opposite side

Attach yarn in 1st sc on opposite side of 26th (21st) row and working towards the center, repeat 27th (22nd) and 28th (23rd) rows, break yarn.

20th (15th) Row

20th (15th) Row. Decrease in 1st 2 sc, 1 sc in each of the next 4 sc, ch 7 (6), skip 7 (6) sc for thumb opening, 1 sc in each remaining sc decreasing in last 2 sc.

21st (16th) Row

21st (16th) Row. 1 sc in each sc working 1 sc in each st of ch. Work remaining rows same as front section.

Assembly

Join sections

With Red crochet the 2 sections together with sc leaving upper edge open for hand but working sc on each section of opening, break yarn.

LEAF: With 12 strands of Green "STAR" Six Strand Embroidery Cotton, ch 21, 1 sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in next st of ch, 1 s dc in each of the next 3 sts of ch (s dc: thread over hook, insert in st, pull through, thread over and pull through all loops at one time), 1 dc in each of the next 3 sts of ch, 1 trc in each of the next 5 sts of ch, 1 dc in each of the next 3 sts of ch, 1 s dc in each of the next 2 sts of ch, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts of ch, ch 1 and working on other side of ch, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 s dc in each of the next 3 sts, 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 trc in each of the next 4 sts, 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 s dc in each of the next 3 sts, 1 sc in each remaining st.

2nd Row

Next Row. Working around entire leaf, work 1 sc in each sc, 1 s dc in each s dc and 1 trc in each trc working 3 sc at point, break thread. Work another leaf in same manner and sew to top of holder as illustrated.

Stem

Stem

STEM: With Brown using 12 strands, ch 31 and work 30 sc on ch, break thread. Sew to top as illustrated.

Lower stem

Using 12 strands of Brown ch 10, sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in next st of ch, 1 s dc in each of the next 5 sts of ch, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts of ch, break thread and sew to lower edge of top section.

Embroidery

Embroidery

With Yellow using 12 strands, embroider 3 lines on right hand side about 1 1/2 inches long and 2 lines on left hand side about 3 1/2 inches long using an outline st.
