M ATERIALS: J. & P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN, 2 balls of White or Ecru and 1 ball of any color are sufficient for 2 place mats, each about 12% x17 inches, and arunner about 124% x 27 inches. Steel Crochet Hook No. 6 or 7,

PLACE MAT... With White, ch 144 to measure 16% inches. Ist row: Sc in 12th ch from hook, * ch7, skip 3 ch, scin next ch. Repeat from * across. Ch 10, turn.

2nd row: * Sc in center st of next ch-7 loop, ch 7. Repeat from * across, ending with ch 7, skip 3 sts of turning chain, sc in next ch. Ch 10, turn. Repeat 2nd row until 30 rows in all are made.

Ch 7, turn. Next row: * Scincenter st of next ch- 7 loop, ch 3. Repeat from * across, ending with ch 3, skip 3 sts of turning chain, sc in next ch. Break off.

BORDER. ... Ist rnd: Attach color in center ch st of any corner, ch1, work 3 sc insame place where thread was attached, sc in each chandin each sc around, making 3 sc ineach corner. Join with sl st in Ist sc made.

2nd rnd: Scineach sc around, making 3 sc in center sc of each corner. Join and break off.

3rd rnd: Attach White in any corner sc, chl,insame place where thread was attached make sc, ch7 and sc;*ch/, skip 3 sc, scinnext sc. Repeat from * to next corner, in corner sc make sc, ch/7andsc. Continue thus around. Join.

4th rnd: SI stin 3 chof corner loop, ** in corner loop make sc, ch7 andsc;*ch/7,scin center st of next ch-7 loop. Repeat from * to next corner loop. Repeat from ** around. Join and break off.

5th rnd: Attach color and work sl stin each ch st andin each sc of Ath rnd. Break off.

BOW ... With color make achain 40 inches long. Ist row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each chacross. Ch], turn.

2nd row: Scineachsc across. Break off. Make a bow of this piece. Pin mat out to measurements. Sew bow in place as illustrated.

RUNNER... With White, ch 1OO to measure I1Y% inches. Work same as Place Mat until 68 rows are completed. Ch 7, turn and work last row of Place Mat. Now work Border same as Border of Place Mat. Make 2 Bows (make chains 30 inches long) and sew at each end of Runner.

Starch, pin out to measurements and press.
