Sunflower Potholder Pattern #S-352

MATERIALS: J. & P. COATS "KNIT-CRO- SHEEN," Art. A.64: 1 ball each of No. 100-A Canary Yellow and No. 131 Fudge Brown... Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 7...A bone ring.

FRONT... Starting at center with Fudge Brown, ch 2. 1st rnd: 10 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Sl st in first sc.

2nd rnd: Ch 3, holding back on hook the last loop of each dc, make 2 dc in same place as sl st, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (cluster made), * ch 1, 3 dc cluster in next sc. Repeat from * around. Join to 3rd ch of ch-3.

3rd rnd: Sl st in tip of first cluster, 4 sc in same place as last sl st, 4 sc in tip of each cluster around (40 sc on rnd). Sl st in first sc.

4th rnd: Ch 3, 2 dc cluster in same place as sl st, * ch 1, skip 1 sc, 3 dc cluster in next sc. Repeat from * around. Join.

5th rnd: Sl st in tip of first cluster, 3 sc in same place, 3 sc in tip of each cluster around. Join.

6th and 7th rnds: Repeat 4th and 5th rnds once more (90 sc on last rnd). Join. Break off Brown.

8th rnd: Attach Canary Yellow to same place as last joining, ch 4, 4 tr in same place as thread was attached, * skip 4 sc, 5 tr in next sc. Repeat from * around. Join.

9th rnd: Sl st in next 2 tr, ch 4, 6 tr in same place as sl st, * 7 tr in center tr of next 5-tr group. Repeat from * around. Join.

10th rnd: Sl st in next 3 tr, ch 4, 8 tr in same place as last sl st, * 9 tr in center tr of next tr-group. Repeat from * around. Join.

11th rnd: Sl st in next 4 tr, ch 4, 10 tr in same place as last sl st, * 11 tr in center tr of next tr-group. Repeat from * around. Join and break off.

BACK ...Work exactly as for Front.

Place the 2 pieces together with wrong sides facing and, working over both thicknesses, join as follows: Using 2 strands of Fudge Brown, attach thread to first free st of 7th rnd preceding any tr-group. * Working toward outer edge, (ch 1 loosely, insert hook in sp under the 2 end tr's of next rnd and bring it out in the sp above, thread over and draw loop through, thread over and draw through both loops on hook—sc made) 4 times; skip first tr of the 11 tr group, sc in next 9 tr, now, working toward the center, (make sc over next 2 end tr's as before, ch 1) 4 times; sc in next free st on 7th rnd following the tr-group, skip next 2 free sts on same rnd, sc in next st. Repeat from * around. Join and break off.

With Fudge Brown sc closely around bone ring. Join and break off. Sew ring in place on pot holder.
