Waistcoat Blouse Pattern #134

Materials: J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 7 balls of color 26 Nile Green. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 1 or 2. Talon Hookless Fastener, 15 inches long. Two buttons. Gauge: 3 meshes equal 1 inch; 3 rows equal 1 inch. Work should be done very loosely throughout.

Back: Ch 99, turn.

1st row: In 3rd ch from hook make 1 sc, * skip 1 ch, in next ch put 3 sc, skip 1 ch, make 1 sc in next ch, and repeat from * keeping work very loose. Ch 2, turn.

2nd row: * Into single sc of row below put 3 sc, and 1 sc into 2nd st of group of 3 sc. Repeat from * across ending row with 1 sc in ch-2 at end of row below. Ch 2, turn.

Repeat 2nd row, increasing 1 mesh at each end on 6th and 12th rows.

When work is 8½ inches deep (length of underarm) decrease 1 whole mesh (1 sc, 3 sc) at each end for underarm.

Then decrease ½ mesh at each end on every row for 6 rows.

Work straight for 34 rows, bringing work to shoulder.

Decrease 1 mesh at each end every row for 18 rows. Then finish off.

Front: Ch 31, turn.

1st to 13th rows incl: Same as for back, keeping front edge even.

14th row: Work 5 meshes, then ch 19 (to allow for pocket), skip 5 complete meshes, then work across row. Ch 2, turn.

On next row, work in ch-19, as in 1st row of back.

Continue until work is 9½ inches long. Then decrease 1 mesh for underarm. Be sure that it is not on the same edge as buttonhole.

Decrease 2 mesh at arm for 6 rows, then work straight for 54 rows.

Decrease 1 mesh at each end every row until all meshes are worked off. Break thread. Make other side to correspond.

Pocket: In front loops of sts at lower edge of pocket opening, make a row of sc. At end of row, ch 1, turn, and put 1 sc in each st of row below. Repeat for a 3rd row.

Tack the 2 ends to the body of work so that the band will stay flat.

Attach thread to wrong side of work, then put 1 sc in the back loops of sts on the lower edge of pocket, and inch on upper edge. Work round and round until 12 rows have been made. Then break thread and sew across bottom.

Sleeve: Ch 51, turn.

Repeat directions for back, but increase ½ mesh at each end every 10th row until sleeve is desired length. Then decrease ½ mesh at each end every row until all meshes have been worked off.

Attach thread to the bottom of sleeve, ch 1, 1 sc in each st of foundation ch. Continue with 2 more rows of sc.

Sew back and fronts together at shoulder seams and underarm.

Then attach thread at neck and work row of sc around to other side of front. Ch 1, turn.

Put 1 sc in 1st st, ch 5 (to allow for buttonhole), skip 5 sc. Then continue around, making a similar buttonhole, 1 sc from the other end. Ch 1, turn.

1 sc in each st of row below, and work until 11 rows have been made.

Then work as in 2nd row of back in the mesh pattern and make 12 rows.

Then work 3 rows of sc around entire jacket and finish off. Sew sleeves in at the armhole.
