aterials: Choose one of the following threads in White or Ecru: Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Crochet, size 50, 8 balls. J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet, size 50, 6 balls. J, & P. Coats Big Ball Best Six Cord Mercerized Crochet, size 50, 4 balls. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 12 or 13. When completed, large mat measures about 11% x 17 inches, and each small mat about 11¥%x 9 inches. Gauge: 7 sps make linch; 7 rows make inch.

Large Mat. Starting at "A" on chart, ch 248 (to measure about 12 inches), turn. Ist row: Dcin 8thch from hook, * ch 2, skip 2 ch, dc innext ch. Repeat from * across (81 sps). Ch 5, turn.

2nd row: Dcinlstdc,*2dcinsp,dcind c. Repeat from * across, ending rowwith ch 2, dcin 3rd st of turning ch. Ch 5, turn.

3rd row: Dcin Ist dc(1sp made), 2dcinsp,dcindc(l1blmade), ch 2, skip 2dc,dcinnext dc;76moresps, |bl,1sp.Ch5, turn. Hereafter follow chart from "B" to top. When work reaches top of chart, reverse the design and work back to Ist row. Break off.

Small Mats. Work exactly as for large mat, but continue in pattern until piece measures 7% inches, and then complete to correspond with opposite end. Break off.
