Filet crochet altar lace about 8 inches deep with large and small cross motifs and a matching edging. Originally published in Spool Cotton #131, Church Laces.

Notes
Lace measures about 8 inches deep. Each complete pattern (1 large and 1 small Cross) measures about 16 inches wide, and requires about 450 yds. of thread, including edging.
Choose one of the following threads in White, size 70: Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Crochet. J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet.
Lace
Starting at lower edge, make a chain tightly to measure ½ longer than desired length.
Dc in 8th ch from hook, * ch 2, skip 2 ch, dc in next ch. Repeat from * for desired length (number of spaces should be divisible by 128, plus 102 spaces). Cut off remaining chain. Ch 5, turn.
Sp over sp. Ch 5, turn.
Make 46 sps, ch 2, dc in dc, 2 dc in next sp, dc in dc (bl); make 7 more bls, 73 sps. Now follow chart from A to B for as many patterns as desired; then repeat from A to C once. After pattern is completed, work 9 rows of sps to correspond with first 9 rows. Break off.
Edging
To begin, ch 18.
Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each of next 2 ch, * ch 2, skip 2 ch, dc in next ch. Repeat from * 2 more times, dc in each of last 3 ch. Ch 3, turn.
Make bl over bl and sp over sp. Ch 5, turn.
Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next ch, dc in dc, 2 sps, 1 bl, 1 sp, 1 bl. Ch 3, turn.
1 bl, 4 sps, 1 bl. Ch 5, turn.
Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next ch, dc in dc, 5 sps, 1 bl. Ch 3, turn.
Make bl over bl and sp over sp; turn.
Sl st in each of 4 dc, ch 3, 2 dc in next sp, dc in next dc, 4 sps, 1 bl. Ch 3, turn.
1 bl, 1 sp, 1 bl, 2 sps, 1 bl; turn.
Sl st in each of 4 dc, ch 3, 2 dc in next sp, dc in next dc, 3 sps, 1 bl. Ch 3, turn.
Make bl over bl and sp over sp. This completes pattern. Repeat pattern for desired length.
