Brookside Luncheon Set Pattern #7072
Luncheon set with 4 place mats about 12 x 18 inches, a center mat about 12 x 24 inches, and corner motifs sewn on later. Originally published in Spool Cotton #95, New Table Settings.

Corner motifs are made individually and sewed in later.
The last two rows constitute the pattern.
Place Mat
Starting at one short end, ch 52 (to measure about 3 inches), turn.
Sc in 4th ch from hook, sl st in each of next 2 ch, * ch 4, skip 2 ch, sl st in each of next 3 ch. Repeat from * across, ending row with ch 4, sc in last ch (10 loops in all). Ch 4, turn.
Tr in 1st loop, * ch 4, 2 tr in next loop. Repeat from * across. Ch 4, turn.
* Skip the tr-group and 1st ch of next ch-4, sl st in each of next 3 ch of same ch-4, ch 4. Repeat from * across. Ch 4, turn.
Same as 2nd row. Ch 4, turn.
Same as 3rd row. Turn and break off.
Ch 21, 2 tr in last loop of 5th row, * ch 4, 2 tr in next loop. Repeat from * across. Ch 24, turn.
Sl st in 7th ch from hook, sl st in each of next 2 ch, ch 4, skip 2 ch, sl st in each of next 3 ch (2 loops made), make 2 more loops on chain, then continue in pattern across, making 4 loops on other chain. Ch 4, turn.
Same as 2nd row.
Repeat 3rd, 2nd and 3rd rows. Break off at end of 11th row.
Work as for 6th row.
Work as for 7th row.
Repeat 8th to 13th rows incl.
Hereafter work in pattern straight with no more shapings for 10 more inches, ending with a tr-row. Ch 2, turn.
Work in pattern as before but make ch-2 loops across 1st 4 tr-groups and last 4 tr-groups. Turn and break off.
Skip the 1st 4 ch-2 loops, attach thread to 5th loop, ch 4, tr in same loop, ch 4, and continue pattern across to within 4 ch-2 loops from end. Hereafter work in pattern to correspond with opposite end. Break off.
Corner Motif
With Dk. Red, ch 34, turn.
Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each of next 14 ch, skip 2 ch (to form inner corner), sc in each of next 16 ch. Ch 1, turn.
Hereafter pick up only the back loop of each sc of previous row.
Sc in each sc to within 1 sc from inner corner sc, then skip 1 sc, sc in corner sc, skip 1 sc, sc in each of remaining sc. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat 2nd row until 3 sc remain in the row. Then ch 1, sl st in last st. Break off.
Make 12 motifs in all. Place them in position, as in illustration and sew with over-and-over stitches, using Ecru thread.
Center Mat
Work exactly as for Place Mat, but making the center section 16 inches long (instead of 10 inches).
