Butterfly Night Table Doily Pattern #S-55

DOILY ... Starting at center with White, ch 8. Join with sl st to form ring.

Ch 3, 4 dc in ring, (ch 5, 5 dc in ring) 3 times; ch 5. Join with sl st to top of ch-3.

Sl st in next dc, ch 6, sc in 3rd ch from hook (picot made), ch 4, sc in 3rd ch from hook (another picot made), skip next dc, dc in next dc, * picot, ch 1, picot (a picot loop made), in next sp make tr, picot loop and tr; (make a picot loop, skip next dc, dc in next dc) twice. Repeat from * around, ending with a picot loop. Join to 3rd ch of ch-6.

Sl st in base of next picot and in next ch, ch 3, make a picot loop, dc between picots of next picot loop, make a picot loop, in picot loop at corner make tr, picot loop and tr; * picot loop, dc in next picot loop. Repeat from * around, making tr, picot loop and tr in each corner sp. Join.

Repeat 3rd rnd until piece measures 7½ inches square. Join.

Next rnd: Sl st at base of picot and in next ch, ch 7, dc in next picot loop, ch 4, in picot loop at corner make tr, ch 5 and tr; * ch 5, dc in next picot loop. Repeat from * around, making tr, ch 5 and tr in each corner sp. Join to 3rd ch of ch-7. Break off.

Following rnd: Attach Grey to ch-5 loop at any corner, ch 3, in same loop make 2 dc, ch 3 and 3 dc; make 6 dc in each ch-4 sp around, making 3 dc, ch 3 and 3 dc in each corner. Join.

Next rnd: Ch 3, dc in each dc around, in ch-3 sp at corners make 3 dc, ch 3 and 3 dc. Join. Repeat last rnd until piece measures 12 inches square. Join and break off.

Following rnd: Attach White to ch-3 sp at any corner, ch 4, make a picot loop, tr in same sp, * picot loop, skip 4 dc, dc in next dc. Repeat from * around, making tr, picot loop and tr in each ch-3 sp at corners. Join.

Next rnd: Sl st at base of picot and in next ch, ch 4, picot loop, tr in same place, * make a picot loop, dc in next picot loop. Repeat from * around, making tr, picot loop and tr at corners. Join. Repeat last rnd until piece measures 14 inches square. Join and break off.

BUTTERFLY (Make 12) ... Ist rnd: Starting at center with Flamingo, ch 4, sc in 4th ch from hook, (ch 3, sc in same ch) 3 times.

LARGE WING. ... Ist row: Sl st in next loop, ch 4, 6 tr in same loop. Ch 5, turn.

Skip first tr, * tr in next tr, ch 1. Repeat from * across, ending with tr in top of starting chain. Ch 3, turn.

Sc in first sp, * ch 4, sc in next sp. Repeat from * across. Turn.

Sc in first loop, * ch 4, sc in next loop. Repeat from * across. Turn. Repeat last row until 1 loop remains. Break off. Attach thread to next free loop on first rnd and make another wing the same way.

SMALL WING... Ist row: Attach thread to next free loop on first rnd. Ch 3, 6 dc in same loop. Ch 4, turn.

Skip first dc, * dc in next dc, ch 1. Repeat from * across, ending with dc in top of starting chain. Ch 3, turn.

Sc in first sp, * ch 3, sc in next sp. Repeat from * across. Turn.

Sc in first loop, * ch 3, sc in next loop. Repeat from * across. Turn. Repeat last row until 1 loop remains. Break off. Attach thread to next free loop on first rnd and make another small wing the same way.

EDGING... Ist rnd: Attach Flamingo to bar of first tr on Ist row of Large Wing, 4 sc over bar, 4 sc over bar of next tr, sc closely around all wings, making 3 sc, ch 3 and 3 sc in last loop at tip of each wing. Join and break off.

Attach White to same place as sl st, sc in same place, * ch 1, picot, skip 2 sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around, making sc, ch 1, picot and sc in ch-3 sp on each wing. Join and break off.

BODY ... Starting at long side with double strand of Black Tatting-Crochet, ch 25. Ist row: Sc in 3rd ch from hook, ch 1, skip 1 ch, half dc in next ch, ch 1, skip 1 ch, dc in next ch, (ch 1, skip 1 ch, tr in next ch) 6 times; ch 1, skip 1 ch, dc in next ch, ch 1, skip 1 ch, half dc in next ch, ch 1, skip 1 ch, sc in next ch. Break off.

Next rnd: Attach White to last sp made, in same sp make sc, ch 1 and sc (neck edge); ch 1, sc in next sp, * ch 1, picot, sc in next sp. Repeat from * across, in sp at opposite end make sc, ch 1, picot and sc, work across next side to correspond. Join and break off.

HEAD ... With double strand of Black, ch 5. Join with sl st to form ring. Ist rnd: 12 sc in ring. Join and break off.

Attach White to same place as sl st, sc in same place, sc in next 5 sc, sl st in sp at neck edge of Body, sc in each remaining sc around Head. Join and break off.

ANTENNAE... With double strand of Black, ch 15, sl st in center sc of Head, ch 15. Break off.

Sew Body in place on wings. Sew Butterflies in place around doily as illustrated. Starch lightly and press.
