Clown Tissue Cover Pattern

Starting at center with White, ch 4. Join with sl st to form ring.

In ring make 2 sc, 2 hdc and 6 dc. Do not join rnds but mark last st on every rnd to insure proper shaping.

2 dc in each st around—40 dc at end of 3rd rnd.

* Dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around—90 dc at end of 5th rnd.

Dc in each dc around; then make hdc in next 2 dc, sc in next 2 dc.

Sl st loosely in each of the 90 sts around.

Picking up the back loop of the st behind the sl st only, make sc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, dc in next 86 sts.

Dc in each st around.

Repeat 2nd rnd until piece covers the roll of tissue; then make hdc in next 2 dc, sc in next 2 dc, sl st in next dc. Break off and fasten.

With Green, ch 4. Join with sl st to form ring. Ch 1, 9 sc in ring. Join to first sc. Break off and fasten. Sew dots, spaced at random, to side of cover. Run elastic through the sts of last rnd. Fasten.

Starting at top with Rose, work as for Cover-Top until the 3rd rnd has been completed.

* Dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around—60 dc.

Dc in each dc around.

Repeat 5th rnd until piece measures 42 inches from top.

* Dc in next dc, holding back on hook the last loop of each dc, dc in next 2 dc, thread over and draw through all loops on hook—1 dc decreased. Repeat from * around—40 dc.

(Dc in next dc, dec 1 dc over next 2 dc) 10 times for front of head; dc in remaining 10 dc—30 dc.

Work 2 rnds even; then hdc in next 2 dc, sc in next 2 dc, sl st in next dc. Break off and fasten.

With Rose, work as for Cover-Top until the 2nd rnd has been completed—20 dc. Next rnd: Dc in next 2 dc, hdc in next 2 dc, sc in next 2 dc, sl st in next dc. Break off and fasten.

With Rose, work as for Cover-Top until the 3rd rnd has been completed; work hdc in next 2 dc, sc in next 2 dc, sl st in next dc. Break off and fasten. Fold ear in half and sew edges together. Stuff head, cut a mouth from red felt and eyes from black felt. Sew ears, nose, mouth and eyes in place. Sew head to center top of cover.

With Green, ch 46 to measure about 8 inches.

Sc in 2nd ch from hook, * ch 5, sc in next ch. Repeat from * across. Ch 7, turn.

In first loop make sc, ch 5 and sc; * ch 5, in next loop make sc, ch 5 and sc. Repeat from * across. Ch 7, turn.

Sc in first loop, * ch 5, sc in next loop. Repeat from * across. Ch 7, turn. At end of last row omit turning chain. Break off and fasten. Sew in place around neck.

With White, ch 4. Join to form ring.

Ch 1, 12 sc in ring. Do not join rnds.

2 sc in each sc around—24 sc.

Sl st loosely in each sc around.

Sc in both loops of each sc on 2nd rnd behind sl sts.

Sc in each sc around. Drop White, attach Green.

With Green, repeat 5th rnd. At end of last rnd drop Green, pick up White.

Repeat 3rd rnd.

Working through both loops of the sl sts in front of the sc's of 7th rnd, * sc in next st, 2 sc in next st. Repeat from * around—36 sc.

Sc in each sc around; then repeat 3rd rnd. Join. Break off and fasten. Stuff crown of hat and sew in place.
