With double thread of Blue, Ch 60, dc in 4th st from hook, *1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts, repeat from * across row, ch 1, turn.

2nd Row—* 1 sc in each of the next 2 dc, 1 dc in each of the next 2 sc and repeat from * across row.

With White, work 2 rows even working the sc over the dc and the dc over the sc.

Attach Blue, * decrease 1 st at the beginning and end of row and work 1 row even. Attach White and work 2 rows even, repeat from * 8 times and work 2 rows even in Blue, break thread.

Back of Handbag. Work same as front then continue to work in pattern for 6 more rows even.

Next Row—* Decrease 1 st on each side and work 1 row even repeat from * twice.

Next Row—Decrease 1 st each side.

Next Row—Work 13 sts, ch 6, skip 6 sts for buttonhole, 1 st in each of the next 13 sts, break thread.

With Blue starting at beginning of 7th stripe from top of bag work 2 rows of pattern around entire flap of bag working 1 st in each ch of buttonhole.

Gusset is made in Blue. Ch 10, 1 dc in 4th st from hook, work in pattern st same as bag until piece measures 23 inches, break thread.

Sew gusset in position starting at top and sewing around both sides and lower edge.

BUTTON. With White using double thread crochet over a button mold in sc. Sew to front of bag.

HANDLE. With White using double thread ch 4, join 1 sc in each ch.

Next Row—1 sc in each sc, do not join rows, continue in same manner until handle measures 13 inches. Work a Blue cord same as white, twist together and fasten to each side of bag.

A purse to match can be made working on 18 sts and making it any size desired.
