Starting row

Starting at front leg, ch 14, sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in each remaining st of ch, ch 1, turn and work 8 rows even. (Ch 1 to turn each row.)

10th Row

10th Row—Increase 1 st at end of row and work 1 row even. Repeat the last 2 rows once.

14th Row

14th Row—Repeat 10th row and work 3 rows even.

18th Row

18th Row—1 sc in each sc, ch 30, turn and work 29 sc on ch and 1 sc in each sc.

20th Row

20th Row—Increase 1 st at end of row and work 3 rows even.

24th Row

24th Row—Increase 1 st at end of row.

25th Row

25th Row—Work 1 sc in each sc, ch 20, turn.

26th Row

26th Row—Work 19 sc on ch, 1 sc in each sc.

4th Row—Decrease 1 st at beginning of row and work 1 row even. Repeat the last 2 rows once.

8th Row

8th Row—Decrease 1 st at beginning of row and work 10 rows even, cut yarn.

Second section

Work another section in same manner.

Trunk

Starting row

TRUNK—Join yarn in first sc at lower part of head and work 1 sc in each of the first 14 sc, ch 1, turn.

2nd Row

2nd Row—1 sc in each sc.

3rd Row

3rd Row—Decrease 1 st at beginning of row and work 1 row even. Repeat the last 2 rows 5 times.

15th to 18th Rows

15th to 18th Rows—Decrease 1 st at beginning of each row.

19th, 21st and 23rd Rows

19th, 21st and 23rd Rows—Increase 1 st at beginning of each row.

20th, 22nd and 24th Rows

20th, 22nd and 24th Rows—Decrease 1 st at beginning of each row and work 1 row even.

26th Row

26th Row—Decrease 1 st at beginning of row and work 4 rows even. Work 1 row of sc across front of trunk, working 1 sc in every other row, cut yarn. (This shapes the trunk.)

4th Round—1 sc in each sc, cut yarn. Work 3 more sections in same manner.

Ears

EARS—Ch 21, sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in each remaining st of ch, ch 1 to turn all rows.

2nd to 7th Rows—Increase 1 st at beginning of each row.

8th Row

Tail

Tail

TAIL—Ch 6, join, ch 1 and work 1 sc in each st, without joining continue working 1 sc in each sc until work measures 32 inches, then draw up a loop on hook about 1 inch long, *1 sc in next sc, draw up a loop same length, repeat from * all around, cut yarn and trim edge evenly.

Tusks

Tusks

TUSKS—Ch 4, join, work same as tail until work measures 5 inches, cut yarn leaving an 8 inch length. Thread into needle and draw yarn through tusk and back again drawing it up slightly to shape.

To Assemble

To assemble

TO ASSEMBLE—Sew under sections to upper sections, then sew both sections together leaving opening in bottom for filling. Sew in sections for feet. Fill with kapok and sew opening. Attach ears and tusks. Fill tail with kapok and sew in position. Sew buttons in position for eyes.

Blanket

Starting row

BLANKET—With Pink ch 29, sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in each remaining st of ch, ch 1, turn.

Next Row

Next Row—1 sc in each sc, ch 1, turn. Repeat last row until work measures 4 inches, cut yarn. Work a row of sc across each short end.

Fringe

FRINGE—Cut 4 inch strands of yarn. Using 1 strand double in half and knot fringe in every other sc across each short end. Trim with sequins as illustrated.
