Evening Bag Pattern
White crocheted evening bag of joined picot-cluster motifs with sequin edging, satin lining, 6-inch zipper, and matching motif handle. Each motif measures 1½ inches; 30 motifs needed. Originally published in Handbags and Hats.

Motif
Motif:—With No. 12 hook and single strand of thread, ch 6, join to form a ring, ch 1 and work 8 sc in ring, join in 1st sc.
2nd Row:—Ch 6, dc in next sc, * ch 3, dc in next sc, repeat from * 5 times, ch 3, join in 3rd st of ch.
3rd Row:—Ch 1, sc in same space, * ch 18, sc in same space (corner), 2 sc in next loop, sc in next dc, ch 4, sl st in top of last sc for picot, ch 4, sl st in same space, ch 3, sl st in same space (3 picot cluster), 2 sc in next loop, sc in next dc, repeat from * twice, ch 18, sc in same space, 2 sc in next loop, sc in next dc, 3 picot cluster in last sc made, 2 sc in next loop, join in 1st sc.
4th Row:—Sl st in each of the 1st 4 sts of ch, sc in next st of ch, ** 5 sc over same corner loop, ch 3, sl st in top of last sc for picot, * 3 sc over same loop, ch 3, sl st in top of last sc for picot, repeat from * once, 4 sc over same loop, sc in 4th st from end of same ch 18, ch 6, 2 dc in 4th st from hook keeping last loop of each dc on hook, thread over and work off all loops at one time (a rice st), ch 2, sc in 5th st of next ch 18 at next corner, repeat from ** 3 times, but ending with sl st in 1st sc, cut thread.
Work a 2nd motif joining it to 1st motif in last row as follows:—sl st in each of the next 4 sts of ch 18 at corner, sc in next st of ch, 5 sc over same loop, picot, 3 sc over same loop, picot, 3 sc over same loop, ch 1, join to corresponding picot on side of 1st motif, ch 1, sl st in same sc of 2nd motif, 4 sc over same loop of 2nd motif, sc in 5th st from end of same ch 18, ch 6, rice st in 4th st from hook, ch 2, sc in 5th st of next ch 18, 5 sc over same loop of 2nd motif, ch 1, join to corresponding picot on same side of 1st motif, ch 1, sl st in same space of 2nd motif, 3 sc over same loop, picot, 3 sc over same loop, picot, 4 sc over same loop, sc in 5th st from end of same ch 18, finish motif same as 1st motif.
Join all motifs in same manner having 6 rows of motifs with 5 motifs in each row. Fold work in half having the right side on outside, there will be 3 x 5 motifs for front of bag and 3 x 5 motifs for back of bag.
Bag
Working from both balls of thread (double strand), string about 500 sequins and keep sequins pushed back on thread, do not work with sequins.
With No. 10 hook, attach double thread in corner picot inserting hook through both sections to close bag, ch 7 and working down short side, * sc in last sc of corner loop, always work through both sections, ch 7, sc in last sc of next corner loop of same motif, ch 7, skip 1 picot of same corner loop, sc in next picot, ch 7, sc in next free picot of next motif, ch 7, repeat from * once, sc in last sc of same corner loop, ch 7, sc in 1st sc of next corner loop of same motif, ch 7, skip 1 picot, sc in next picot (lower corner of bag), working across bottom of bag and through both sections, * ch 7, sc in last sc of same corner loop, ch 7, sc in 1st sc of next corner loop of same motif, ch 7, skip 1 picot of same motif, sc in next picot, ch 7, sc in 1st free picot of next motif, repeat from * across bottom, then work up other short side same as opposite short side, ch 7, turn.

Next Row: * Ch 7, push 1 sequin next to last st of ch made, ch 1, sc in next loop, repeat from * across 3 sides, turn.
Next Row: ** Ch 2, * place a sequin next to the ch and hold sequin in position with finger and thumb of left hand, ch 2, repeat from * twice, sc in next loop, repeat from ** around 3 sides, cut thread.
Handle
HANDLE: With No. 12 hook and single strand of thread work 1st 2 rows same as 1st 2 rows of motif.
3rd Row: Ch 1, * 3 sc in each of the next 2 loops, sc in next dc, work a 3 picot cluster same as on motif, repeat from * 3 times, join, cut thread.
Work a 2nd motif in same manner joining it to 1st motif at center picot of 3 picot cluster of one corner. Join 3rd motif to 2nd motif in same manner leaving 1 point free at top and lower edge between joinings. Work 7 more motifs joining in same manner.
