Note
There are slight variations to materials and instructions between these two versions of the same pattern in different publications. Two versions are below.
Version Spool57
Half Moon Purse Pattern #280 from Spool Cotton #57, Crocheted and Knitted Bags. Materials: J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 1 ball of color 70 Blue Jewel and 1 ball of color 68 Skipper Blue; or Clark's O.N.T. Knit-Crochet, 3 balls of Blue Jewel and 1 ball of Skipper Blue. Lining for bag, and 6-inch Talon slide fastener. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 1. Use thread double throughout.
With Blue Jewel, ch 4. Join with sl st to form ring. Work very loosely. 8 half dc in ring.
2 half dc in each st of previous rnd.
* 1 half dc in next st, 2 half dc in next, and repeat from * around.
1 half dc in each st, and 2 half dc over each increase.
Repeat 4th rnd, changing to Skipper Blue for the 12th, 13th, and the 15th and 16th rnds. Break off.
Inset: With Blue Jewel, ch 58, turn. 1 sc in 3rd ch from hook and in each st of ch.
1 sl st in each st. Ch 2, turn.
1 sc in each st.
Same as 2nd row.
1 sc in each of 1st 14 sts, ch 28, skip 28 sts of previous row, 1 sc in each of next 14 sts.
Alternate 2nd and 3rd rows, ending with 2nd row. Break thread.
Sew Talon slide fastener in slit. Sew circular piece around inset, and make handles, one Blue Jewel and one Skipper Blue, ch 61 and work 1 row of sc along ch. Attach as shown in illustration. Sew in lining.
Version Spool72

Cronita, 1 ball of color 70 Blue Jewel and 1 ball of color 68 Skipper Blue. Lining for bag, and 6-inch Talon slide fastener. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 1. Use thread double throughout.
With Blue Jewel, ch 4, join with sl st to form ring. Work very loosely. 8 half dc in ring.
2 half dc in each st of previous rnd.

Sew Talon slide fastener in slit. Sew circular piece around insert, and make handles, one Blue Jewel and one Skipper Blue: Ch 61 and work 1 row of sc along ch.
Slides. Make 2 pieces to hold handles in place by working the same way as the handles, only making each piece 1½ inches long. Sew these pieces around handles to form slides.
Attach handles as shown in illustration and slip one slide down each end of the handle. Sew in lining.
